Hey! My name is Michele aka Mirko. I will take you for a trip around Kanchanaburi province in Thailand. I have been travelling Thailand for so many times and I got the chance to live in Chiang Mai for one year in 2016/17 as an exchange student at Chiang Mai university.

I have seen so many villages around Thailand but none as fascinating and with a distinct identity as Nong Rong community in Kanchanaburi province. Unlike other popular places in Thailand, such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai or Sukhothai, you will not find many tourists here. This village is definitely worth an visit if you are into traditional and characteristic places.

In this blog, I am going to share my trip and some must-know tips before visiting this amazing place.

Day 1

Khun Supattra was so lovely to give us details about the history of the city during World War II.

Her shop, called Chuan Panit (Thai: ชวนพานิช), is located right in the old town. If you walk by, she will be happy to invite you in to take a look to her huge collection of amulets, antiques, magazines and photographs. She knows everything about each single building in the area and their important functions for the Japanese soldiers located in Kanchanburi during World War II since the city was the main hub for expeditions. One of the building near her house was originally an hotel for the Japanese soldiers that used to place air weapons on its roof in the hope to take down enemies’ bombers and aircraft.
