Anybody here loves soy bean, soy milk or tofu? I do, I do! So there’s not even a second I waited to take my wallet out the minute I saw this small yellow stall full of the thing they call ‘ Lao Ban Soya Beancurd ‘.

BEAN CURD AND TOFU ARE EXACT SAME THING, MADE FROM SOY MILK VARYING SOFTNESS. IT IS A TRADITIONAL COMPONENT OF EAST ASIAN AND SOUTHEAST ASIAN CUISINES. IT HAS BEEN CONSUMED IN CHINA FOR OVER 2,000 YEARS

LAO BAN SOYA BEANCURD

IT’S GOTTA BE GOOD !

It’s our first day and also first time in Singapore so no, I didn’t know much about the country and the Singaporean culture. I was excited about everything around as it just felt like we’re not really in Asia no more. It’s nice, clean and pricey. At this bus terminal we’ve stopped by, we randomly walked past this shop selling just a few things in their fridge, Soya bean curd and herb jelly in a clear plastic container with these adorable elder couple on it. As mentioned, I didn’t hesitate to just give it a go as the it seemed like they’re specialised in this exact thing.

ORIGINAL VS ALMOND LAO BAN SOYA BEANCURD

SORRY TEETH, YOU ARE NOT NEEDED AROUND HERE

I order the original Lao Ban Soya Beancurd (S$1.5). Opened it slowly and scooped the first one into my mouth and oh my! You have no idea how soft and smooth the soya bean could be. It’s unrealistically smooth, like, literally. Love how mild the taste is as well. Not too sweet but also not bland. It’s so delicious and good.. and you, it’s healthy!

Then, we wanted to try the almond Lao Ban Soya Beancurd (S$2). To be honest, it’s disappointing a bit on this one. The smell’s too strong. Almost felt like it’s fake but I just couldn’t really tell. Anyways, stick with the original one!

In general, this is just so delicious and so refreshing. We needed this in the extreme heat! Not as hot as Thailand but still, you would always need something to cool you down and keep you hydrated.

After that, I have seen this brand a few times here and there. There’s also the other brand, Xiao Ban, that’s actually do the exact same business as the owner is the son of of Lao Ban Soya Beancurd’s owner. I didn’t have a chance to give it a try but I heard they are pretty much twins!

This is for sure one of the Singaporean dessert I love a lot. I would never get bored of eating it. It’s soft, smooth, refreshing and light! If you ever had a chance to visit Singapore, get at least two at a time just for yourself. Yes, It’s that good!
