Even though it's a Honeymoon Trip, for our level, finding cheap tickets is important!!
After the wedding ceremony was successfully completed on March 15th, we started looking for tickets seriously. We monitored Skyscanner every day and then fate led us to Aeroflot Bangkok-Vienna for 22,xxx baht per person. It was so light and exciting.
Then the plan + visa started to happen. We applied for an Austrian visa because we entered and exited there and it was the country where we stayed the longest on the trip. We applied at the visa application center, Silom Complex, 15th floor. No need to book an appointment. Just walk in and have your documents ready. Booking hotels to complete the end.
The visa process was very fast. We submitted it on Thursday afternoon (the embassy was closed on Friday) and the following Wednesday we received an SMS notification to pick up our passport.
DAY 1: Departing from Bangkok to Moscow for a layover. The food on Aeroflot was good, and the service was up to standard.
However, due to the poor weather conditions in Moscow, the plane circled for almost an hour. To make matters worse, the TV screens on the plane were an hour ahead of real time. This caused a problem for us, as we only had a 2-hour layover.
As soon as the plane touched down on the runway, everyone from Thailand, Korea, and Russia started grabbing their belongings and running. We had to change terminals, and according to the terminal map, it was going to be a long walk. Oh my god!
As I arrived at the gate, the atmosphere was quiet and there were few people around. I wondered if I had missed my flight or something. I checked the FIDS screen and saw that the flight had not yet departed and the gate was not yet open. I looked at the time and realized that it was not yet time for my flight. I still had an hour to spare! I decided to grab something to eat.
Arrived in Vienna around 9pm (it's already past 2am in Thailand, my eyes are so sleepy)
) Hurry up and buy a bus ticket into the city. The first night we stayed near Wien Westbahnhof station because the next day we had to catch an early train. After checking in, we went to our accommodation "Do Step Inn".
DAY 2: Today, I woke up early to catch the train to Hallstatt, a town I've read reviews and seen pictures of more than 50 times, haha! Even though I had read the reviews carefully, there were still some unexpected hiccups. Stay tuned to find out what happened!
We booked our train tickets in advance from the OBB website. The prices for each trip were different, so we chose the morning trip because it was cheaper than the morning trip. Plus, we'll have more time to explore Hallstatt.
Travel - Depart from Wien Westbahnhof to Steeg-Gosau station, travel time 3.41 hrs. Ticket price per person 19 Euro
**I wouldn't recommend getting off at this station. It's better to get off at Hallstatt station and then take a boat. When we got off at Steeg-Gosau, the station staff were confused and rushed over to ask us where we were going and why we got off! They then put us on the next train to another station to catch a bus instead.**
Highly recommended!! The buttery and fragrant croissant from "Le Crobag" is soooo delicious. Enjoying it with coffee on the train is the best!
The view from the road is amazing.
We arrived at the "Gasthof Bergfried" guesthouse, a family-run business. The mother was at the reception, and her handsome son was cleaning. The room was adorable, with a lovely pine scent. I could have stayed in bed all day!
Without further ado, seeing both Thai and Chinese tourists walking all over the city, I decided to take refuge in the salt mine while waiting for the crowd to disperse. At first, I didn't have any expectations and even felt a little sorry for the ticket price. But in the end, it turned out to be great, making my Hallstatt trip even more enjoyable in a different way.
After descending from the salt mine, the tour groups are starting to disperse. It's the perfect time to take a stroll before dinner.
Tips..Sleep well Zzz
Bye Bye Hallstatt..Let's say it's a cute, cuddly town according to the reviews. But it wasn't as exciting as I thought, or maybe I missed something. But everyone's taste is different, so the best thing to do is to come and see for yourself!!
