On Saturday, March 12-13, 2016, I had the opportunity to go on a light trek in Chanthaburi. The name of the place is "Pha Hin Goob". Before I went, I read some reviews from people who had been there on Pantip. It looked like it was an elementary school level trek, so I thought I would go and enjoy the fresh air on top of the cliff. = = Little did I know that it wouldn't be that easy. 555+
** The pictures during the trip may not be clear because I was tired and the air was very humid, so there may be some fog on the lens.

Bear Alone

Let me introduce you to "Koop Hin Koob", located in the "Thung Phel Forest Protection Unit", Chanthaburi. The distance is approximately 7-8 kilometers. The actual walking time for experienced and tough hikers is around 5-6 hours to reach the summit. For beginners, it usually takes 6-8 hours, which is considered short compared to many famous trekking routes in Thailand.

** If you come during the rainy season, you might encounter a sea of fog, but there are a lot of leeches.

** Came during the hot season, didn't find any sea of mist, but no leeches 55 <--This is mine

Review Detail: This trip review will focus on travel and photography, without going into too much detail to keep the information concise. It will be divided into 2 Episodes (combined into one Topic) with the following rough details:

Episode 1 Main of Topic ... Conquer the Goob Rock

Episode 2 Khao Sukim Temple & Visiting Nang Phaya Hill & Breathing in the evening air with golden light (Thung Prang Thong)

Episode 3 --- Summary of expenses ---

Bear Alone

Let's go-----

1. Booking

You don't need to book a trip here, you can come with your own group. Just call the Thung Phaya Wildlife Sanctuary staff in advance and you can come. Normally, there aren't many people here (but lately they say it's starting to get crowded). Our group was about 40 people, but it was still quiet when we walked.

2. Preparation

The hike here is quite challenging, but the distance is short, only a few hours to reach the destination. So you don't need to prepare much physically, just mentally. 555+ We went with normal backpacks, like backpackers. 555+ Chill.

**There is natural water available above.

3. Food and drink

Bear Alone

Let's keep it simple, as we have to carry everything up there and we don't have any porters. It's up to you what you want to eat. If you're easygoing, instant noodles might be a good option. But if there are a lot of you and you know how to cook, or have experience and equipment, then making a good meal is no problem. As for me, when I go hiking often, I cook fresh food up there.

4. Travel

I recommend driving your own car because before you start walking, you will have a place to store your belongings downstairs to change back. And the journey in is quite far.

5. Start of the Adventure...

Wildlife Protection Unit, Thung Pela --> Path 1 Kindergarten --> Path 2 Bachelor's Degree --> Mini Cave --> Koo Rock Cliff

Hello everyone, we decided to travel from Bangkok on Friday night. We drove and drove with the goal of reaching the Thung Phea Wildlife Sanctuary. We started walking around 8:30-9:00 AM. We arrived in Chanthaburi and went to "Khanom". We decided to sleep at the PTT gas station. We parked the car and slept, some of us slept in tents (with the permission of the gas station staff). Thank you for letting us sleep there.

** Actually, we can sleep at the Thung Pela Wildlife Sanctuary. There are beds, but we made a communication mistake and thought that the wild elephants couldn't sleep there. So we had to find a place to sleep until we found the gas station. 555+**

9:00 AM, we started walking. There's not much to describe, it's just a regular trekking trip.

We have one more friend joining us, his name is P'Tai. He has extraordinary trekking experience.

Personally, I divide the brutality into two periods.

1. The terrain varies between flat, steep inclines, and gentle slopes. This type of terrain makes up approximately 60% of the total area. <-- I hope this makes sense! 555+

2. The climb is very steep, mostly over 45 degrees, and reaches 80 degrees in some places.

At first, we walked and talked with smiles. When we encountered water, we stopped to wash our faces.

Bear Alone

The first part of the walk is not too strenuous, so you may not need to rest at all, or maybe just 2-3 short water breaks. It's a fairly easy walk.

When we reach this sign, we are almost at the second section.

The second section is very steep, even pro climbers will be out of breath. 555+ But there are ropes to help you pull yourself up at the steepest points.

Bear Alone

The second section is not really far, but it's all uphill, so it takes a while. While walking uphill, we were looking for the cave, because when we reach the top of the cliff, we have to go through the cave first. (A small, cute cave, but with beautiful pictures)

Caving involves a lot of crawling, walking, and climbing. If you are overweight, you should be in good shape. This place is quite challenging in terms of climbing.

Once you exit the cave, you've reached your destination. The first point you'll encounter is the water hose point. This is the only source of running water on this clifftop, so it's used for everything from washing dishes and brushing teeth to filtering drinking water. (Natural water)

2:00 PM ----*Koop Peak*----

There are many places to rest here, but the highlight is that you have to compete with others. It is recommended to have a fast horse to walk up and reserve a place first. The highlight is probably the popular rock pool.

Upon arrival, we set up our sleeping area, spread out the flysheet and groundsheet, and managed the fire source (as we had fresh food).

This place is quite special because the top of the cliff has several peaks to climb and take pictures (probably more than 4-5 points). I will introduce them point by point.

After clearing the items, I took some photos at the popular spot nearby.

Bear Alone

The photos are beautiful, but they only show two different angles. After we finished, we climbed up to the first rock. The climb was quite challenging, and we had to do some scrambling and climbing. In fact, some people who were hiking up didn't even bother to climb it because it was too risky. And this is the second point.

What's behind the elephant? 555+ I can't remember its name.

Notice the background of the picture below. You will see another big rock that we can go to. This is the charm. Each rock has to be climbed. Sometimes we climb rocks, sometimes we climb trees to cross. And each place gives a different angle.

A little blurry image for a fantasy feel.

Bear Alone

This is a picture of the first rock I climbed. It was quite difficult to climb, and we had to pass things to each other before climbing. The way up (from the bottom level in the picture) is at the top of the picture where the tree is.

After the first point, walk to the second point. Walk down and climb the tree connecting the rocks (with a cliff below) as shown in the picture.

The second spot is probably just as beautiful for taking pictures, the light is really nice, especially in the evening. But I didn't cross over myself, I just sat and enjoyed the cool breeze. I'm sharing some pictures from their camera, haha.

We had a great time at the three spots on the first day. We made the most of our time and then went back to prepare for dinner and go to bed. That concludes the first day's mission perfectly.

---- Day2 At Khao Hin Khop @ Chanthaburi ---

On the second day, there will be a beautiful sunrise viewpoint (separate from where we are staying). We should wake up early, around 5:30 AM. The journey there is quite adventurous. We should wake up early, get ourselves ready, and only bring the essentials, as we will have to climb up and down a somewhat difficult path.

Watch the sunrise at Pha Mi (I think that's the name, haha)

The atmosphere is amazing, I love it. This is probably the best part of my trip here. You should definitely come here. The weather is great and there's fog too.

The atmosphere was like this. We brought a field kitchen and a gas canister to make Milo to drink together. It was so cool.

Let's continue with the long shots. If you come, don't forget to breathe in the fresh air.

It's too long. Let's keep this point for a while.

That's enough for now. Actually, I have a lot more pictures, but if I post them all, it will take up 10 pages of the thread. Here are two more pictures.

**Be careful, okay? = ='

After a satisfying breakfast and finishing the morning view shooting, it's time to walk down. Come back to organize the things to be kept at the desired points, clear the things and put them in the backpack. People who walk often will be proficient in organizing things. Those who come for the first time will try their best, it's not difficult.

Here are some photos of flowers and animals found in the forest. The photos were taken by my teammates. I didn't take many myself.

Ending with a raw image of the hilarious victor.

-----End of Episode 1 "Conquering the Goob Rock"-----

---- Episode 2 Khao Sukim Temple & Visiting Nang Phaya Hill & Breathing in the Evening Air with Golden Light (Thung Prong Thong) ----- ##

Actually, it was a bonus. We stopped by because we were on schedule when we got off the plane, so we stopped by to pay our respects and visit the area on the way back, which we had to pass anyway. This point is not very important. We mostly used our own cars + Google map + asking people in the area for directions.

2.1 Khao Sukim Temple It's hard to describe when you enter the temple. Oh, no, I mean, my friends in the group wanted to make merit here. There is a tram, but there are a lot of people going up, so we walked. Ask me why. I just came down from the mountain and now I'm walking up the stairs again. 555+

We happened to arrive on a day when they were serving rice porridge and noodles for free! But after eating, we also made merit. I'm secretly telling you that it was delicious. We had just come down from the mountain, so we were really hungry. We each had 2-3 cups, plus some refreshing cold water. I also secretly took a picture to share with you.

After eating, I went to make merit. I didn't take any pictures. We were making merit together (being a good person for a bit 555+). The view from above is beautiful. And there is a point where wax figures of many famous monks and teachers are set up, but it's a bit hot. If you come here, please stop by and take a look.

2.2 Nang Phaya Hill This beautiful curve point has a lot of cars. There are many people looking for angles to take pictures. There is almost no space. Let's just post pictures. There is nothing to describe. Oh, the sunset here should be beautiful.

Haha, here are two more pictures.

2.3 Thung Prang Thong: Follow Google Maps to reach this location. There are two entrances, one on each side. If you only want to visit the famous landmark or just stop by, it is recommended to park on the side without the warship. Enter through the temple. Here, there is a long wooden bridge. One side is the famous landmark, and the other side is the warship. The wooden bridge is about 2.3 kilometers long.

A taste of Prok Thong for you! This place is best enjoyed in the morning when the light is a lush green, and in the evening when it's a golden glow. Feel free to stop by, but if you're driving from Bangkok just to see Prok Thong, I wouldn't say it's worth it. Just my personal opinion, of course.

After finishing here, we drove back to Bangkok. We left Thung Proeng Thong around 6:00 PM and arrived in Bangkok around 11:00 PM. We stopped to eat noodles on the way. I'm sneaking in a little bit of that for you. 555+

---- End of Episode 2 ----

---- Episode 3 Expenses ----

The total cost will be shared equally among all of us. There are four of us, so we will pool our money together.

- Car oil 640 baht (outbound)

- Mama 61 baht

- Entrance fee including staff 800 baht

- All water on the trip 119 baht

- Steamed bun 40 baht

- Shared food 225 baht (including fresh and non-fresh food)

- Filled up the tank with 400 baht (on the way back)

- Expressway 90 baht

- Noodles to close the trip 220 baht

- Offering alms to monks on Saturday morning before hiking up Khao Kooba, 120 baht

- Lunch on Saturday while walking 120 baht

  • Sticky rice with grilled pork for breakfast on Saturday 100 baht

- Where did I park my car? I forgot. 555+

Total 2,955÷4 = 738.75 Baht/person End of trip

This trip ended beautifully. It's another memorable trip that I think is very worthwhile. I spent 738 baht from Friday night to Sunday evening. If I lived in Bangkok, I would definitely spend more than 738 baht on weekends. I recommend it. Pha Hin Goob is better than I thought. See you around!
