Travel

Koh Phayam is located in Ranong Province. Therefore, I started by taking myself to the Southern Bus Terminal. I booked a ticket for the 8:50 PM bus, which was a first-class bus that cost 403 baht. There were many companies to choose from, so it depends on your personal preference. The journey took about 9 hours, and I arrived at Ranong Bus Terminal around 6 AM. Once you arrive at the bus terminal, look for a shared taxi like this. They will take you to the pier for Koh Phayam. The fare is around 20-30 baht, and it takes about 15-20 minutes to reach the pier.

Upon arriving at the pier, I immediately purchased a ticket. There were two options: a slow boat (2 hours) and a speed boat (30-45 minutes). The speed boat cost 280 baht, while the slow boat or ferry cost 200 baht. As a person of means, I opted for the slow boat. The trip departed at 10 am.

With the tickets purchased, we can now grab some snacks at our convenience. There are many shops in the area. Before boarding time, please wait here. Alright, it's time to board the ship. There are officers to ensure safety, so you can rest assured.

Once you're on board, find a comfortable seat or bed. The crew will distribute life jackets for your safety.

The boat will be ready to leave the pier at 10 am. What to do for 2 hours? It's up to you. 555 Some people read books, listen to music, sleep, chat, whatever is convenient. As for me, I like to sit at the bow of the boat and enjoy the view. The wind is cool.

As you approach Koh Phayam, if there are passengers going to Koh Chang who are nearby, there will be a boat like this waiting to pick them up. Change boats! 555

After dropping off the passengers going to Koh Chang, we continue our journey. We are almost at our destination. If you see an island, a beach, and a pole like this, you are almost there. Hooray!

We've arrived! Woohoo! It took a little over 2 hours, and now we can just walk right onto the shore!

Upon arrival, the first thing to do is to rent a motorbike. Choose whichever one you like, there are many shops. Automatic transmission is 200 baht, manual transmission is 150 baht. You have to buy your own fuel, which costs 35 baht per bottle near the pier and 40 baht per bottle on the island. I'm not sure if the quantities are different.

After you have finished renting, if you have booked accommodation, you can store your belongings. If not, you can ride a motorcycle to find it. Or you can ask people in the area. There are prices starting from 200 baht. This one, you have to find it yourself. 555

Big Bay

Let's start with the first recommendation, Ao Yai. Check the map. There are two ways to get to Ao Yai from the pier. The route I marked in red is the one I recommend. The other route is also accessible, it's up to you. Ideally, you should ride both ways. However, the route I recommend allows for easier access to other bays.

This large bay lives up to its name. It's a long, wide sandy beach with black sand that forms beautiful ripples when the tide goes out. I'll recommend some specific times to visit.

Morning

It's the time when the water is rising. It will be full around 9:30-10:00 AM. I've been here since this morning, so I'll get a light blue sky that gradually gets darker because it's in the west, facing away from the sun, contrasting with the green sea. In the morning, there will be tourists coming to exercise. The beach here has firm sand, so it's comfortable to run. Let's go see the pictures.

Around noon

It's a hot time. The sea water is green, contrasting with the dark blue sky, which is beautiful in another way. During this time, there are also tourists who come to play in the water to cool off. From noon onwards, the water will gradually recede. It will be completely low at around 4-5 pm. Let's go and see.

Evening-Sunset

The highlight here is the sunset, which is when the most people come to play in the water. Wait to watch the sunset. It is also home to many bars. At sunset, the sandbars are beautiful beyond words. Let's go see it!

Buffalo Bay

Let's continue to Khao Kwai Bay. The name comes from the shape of the bay, which resembles a buffalo's head. There are two ways to get there: from Ao Yai Bay, turn down at the souvenir shop. This will take you to South Khao Kwai Bay, where you'll find the Hin Thalu (pierced rock). There are signs, so it's not difficult to find. The other way is to go north towards Ao Kwang Pi Bay. This is North Khao Kwai Bay, where you'll also find the Hippybar. Let's take a look at some pictures. I'll separate them into South and North.

South Khao Kwai Bay

Morning

This bay has a hole-through rock. We can walk there to see it, but the water will start to rise gradually. It will be fully high at 9:30 - 10:00 AM. If you don't want to get wet, hurry back. Otherwise, don't say I didn't warn you. 555 Let's go see it.

Midday - Afternoon

Same as before, it's hot - very hot 555. The water level is going down these days, it goes down steadily until 4-5 pm when it's at its lowest. We can walk down very far, try it, it's fun 555.

My battery died when I went, but the sunset was similar to the one at Ao Kwang Pib. Wait for the pictures in the front, okay?

Summary

Khao Kwai South Bay is not very suitable for swimming. When the tide is high, the beach disappears. It is best to come in the morning between 8-9 am. In the afternoon, around 4 pm, you can come for a walk.

Ao Khao Kwain Nuea

It is located on the way to Ao Kwang Pee. Go north, the road is a bit difficult, it is a gravel road, more potholes. It's not difficult to go, just be more careful. On the north side, we can also see the Gagak bird (the smallest hornbill) and there is a cool Hippy bar. Let's go see it.

Morning

You can easily find hornbills these days. They are at the bay's descent, around 6-7 am.

Midday-afternoon

It's the same everywhere, hot 5555 but the beach is beautiful these days ^^ You can play in the water, but there aren't many people playing.

Evening

I'm too lazy to come. I'm tired 5555. I've arrived at the bay I like the most.

Awkwangpeeb

Ao Kwang Pee Bay is the northernmost bay on the island. It's a bit difficult to get to and requires some driving skills, but it's not too bad. I think this bay is the best for swimming. It's quiet and peaceful, and there's only one resort. There are also trees for shade if you want to relax. Let's go check it out.

Strangely, it's not that hot here at noon or in the afternoon, probably because there are a lot of trees, clear water, and beautiful beaches. I love it the most!

Evening-Sunset

The sunset here is beautiful, but don't come back too late. It's far and the road is difficult. I'm worried about you.

Viewpoint

Turn right at Som Tum Mae Kai restaurant. The road to Ao Yai has a sign for the viewpoint. It's best to go in the morning, around 7-8 am, to see the flocks of hornbills flying by.

Widow Bay

The Widow's Bay is right there at the pier, sir. You'll see it as soon as you arrive.

Khao Kiw Bay

It's located in the south of the island. It's a quiet bay with very few people, perfect for relaxing and reading a book.

Koh Phayam Temple

There is also a church in the middle of the water, which is beautiful. If you go in the afternoon, you will get a dark blue sky. If you go in the morning, you will get a view of the sunrise.

Roads on the island

It is a concrete road where motorcycles can pass each other. There may be tractors passing by, but they will give way to us. The road is good, but be careful of some potholes.

Meeting point Koh Phayam

For coffee lovers, this is the place for you! Located on the way to Ao Yai, the owner is friendly and enjoys conversation. The coffee is strong and the shop doesn't have wifi, so you can sit and chat, read a book, or just relax. Come and check it out!

Gahyu

Cashew nuts, or "Ka Yu" as they are known in Ranong, are a local delicacy. They are grown extensively on Koh Phayam and Koh Chang, with Koh Phayam boasting its own unique variety. Be sure to try them when you visit!

Budget

Let me round up the budget to a whole number.

- Roundtrip transportation cost from Bangkok to Ranong = 800 Baht

- Roundtrip ferry fare from Ranong to Koh Phayam = 400 baht

- Accommodation fee for 2 nights at 400 baht per night = 800 baht

- Motorcycle rental for 2 days at 150 baht per day = 300 baht

- 5 bottles of oil, 35 baht per bottle = 175 baht * I use a lot of oil because I do reviews, haha 55

- Food expenses, I calculated 100 baht per meal * 9 meals = 900 baht

Total 3375 baht. Note: I am coming alone. If there are 2 people, we can share the cost of accommodation and car rental.

*** Most accommodations on the island will have electricity from 5pm to 6am. Please bring a power bank with you, or you can ask to charge your devices at cafes or restaurants.
