With the distance not too far from our home in Korat, this trip to Ayutthaya was for two people. We went slowly, not in a hurry. From Korat to Ayutthaya, the distance we looked at was about 211 kilometers, running along Mittraphap Road. We left at 5 am, the traffic wasn't too heavy, and the roads weren't too chaotic. It was comfortable. We arrived in Ayutthaya around 8 am. Okay!! I've talked enough, let's go on a trip.

Review...Amphawa-Huahin http://pantip.com/topic/30222707Our first destination was Wat Yai Chaimongkol. The distance from Korat to Wat Yai Chaimongkol is about 211 km. We traveled on a weekday and early in the morning, so the traffic was light. There was some road construction along the way, but it wasn't too bad. Wat Yai Chaimongkol is located in Khlong Suan Phlu Subdistrict, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya. Admission is free. The temple has a large parking lot, but it can get crowded on weekends. There are many restaurants in front of the temple. I arrived around 8:00 am, so I chose a restaurant in front of the temple. For breakfast, I had shredded chicken noodle soup, pork leg rice, iced tea, and longan, all for 130 baht. The taste was normal, nothing special (in my opinion).

After we had our fill, we went to visit the temple. The temple grounds are spacious and shady. When we arrived, it wasn't too hot yet. There were many tourists, both foreigners, Asians, and Thais like us. Some parts of the temple were under repair, so please walk carefully.

After spending some time admiring the temple and paying our respects, our next destination was Wat Phanan Choeng, located about 1.6 km from Wat Yai Chaimongkol. The day we visited, there were a lot of cars and people, as if there was some kind of event going on. We're not big fans of crowds, so we only paid our respects to Luang Pho To for a short while. We only managed to get a few photos, as the inside of the chapel was crowded, so we could only pay our respects to him from outside.

Turning right, you will find the Shrine of the Lady of the Betel Nut Flower. Please go in and pray for blessings.

According to the plan, we will go to eat shrimp around 10 am. At that time, it was around 10 am. I was still full from breakfast, but I was afraid that there would be a lot of people, so I decided to go. After leaving Wat Phanan Choeng, we headed to hunt for shrimp. The distance from Wat Phanan Choeng to Wat Ban Mai Rim Nam is about 3.8 km. While driving according to Google map, I found a restaurant with a sign of Ban Mai Rim Nam. But looking inside the restaurant, it didn't seem right. Looking at the map, it wasn't there yet. I was confused as to why they put up a sign!! I drove a little further and found the Ban Mai Rim Nam restaurant. There was the same sign, but looking inside the restaurant, it seemed to be the right one, so I parked. The parking space in front of the restaurant is a bit small. If it's crowded, it might be difficult, but I don't know if there are any other parking spots. We arrived shortly after the restaurant opened, so there weren't many cars yet.

From the front of the shop, walk straight in. You will pass the kitchen area to get to the riverside seating. The weather was starting to get hot, so we chose a seat that wasn't in the sun. Since there were no other customers yet, we had our pick of the menu. The food was varied and the prices were reasonable for Som. Our main goal for the day was grilled river prawns. The menu offered several prices, both per kilo and per piece. We chose two 3-baht prawns at 600 baht each. After waiting for a while, the staff came to tell us that the 3-baht prawns we had chosen were sold out. They offered prices of 500/800/1000 baht instead, so we chose the 500 baht option. We were curious to see if they would be big. The other two dishes we ordered were creamy tom yum soup and fried fish cakes.

The first menu to be served is Tom Yum Goong with coconut milk. The taste is excellent, the shrimp is firm.

A little later, the fried fish cakes arrived. The texture was chewy and the taste was good. Dipping sauce was provided, but I didn't try it.

And our main goal is here, served 2 pieces on a plate. It's so juicy and delicious.

The order comes with 2 plates of plain rice, 30 prawns for 2 people at 1,000 baht, Tom Yum Goong for 180 baht, Tod Mun for 120 baht, 3 bottles of Coke + ice for 55 baht. This meal costs 1,385 baht. After a delicious and satisfying meal, we headed to Wat Chaiwatthanaram. Personally, I like this place the most. It's beautiful, magical, and the air is very good. Although it was hot when we got off the car, once we walked inside, the air was cool and very comfortable. Plus, there's a river on the side and a wide view, which makes it feel even better. There is an entrance fee here: 10 baht for Thais and 50 baht for foreigners. Let's go see the beauty of Wat Chaiwatthanaram.

From Wat Chaiwatthanaram, we went to play with toys at the Million Toy Museum, Krerk Yuphan. It's about 3.5 km away. The entrance fee is 50 baht. This place collects old things, mostly toys, dolls, and antiques. There are also Ban Chiang cups and bowls. It's a two-story blue building with a nice shade. When I arrived, there were no other tourists, so I could walk around comfortably. There's also a toy store, in case anyone is interested. Let's go play with toys!

Along the way, there are many temples and interesting spots. However, due to the rather hot weather and starting to get tired, we made Maha That Temple the last temple of this trip. There is a parking lot, but it seems that only vans are parked there, so we parked on the side of the road instead. The entrance fee here is 10 baht for Thai people as well. There were quite a lot of people and the weather was very hot. But once we entered the archaeological zone, it felt cool. It's great! This place is beautiful. It gives the feeling of an old temple with interesting traces of civilization. Here, there is a Buddha's head surrounded by a large tree. It is assumed that the Burmese might have come to cut it down and dropped it. There are many interesting spots for us to admire the beauty.

This was a one-day trip that Som and her husband enjoyed. It's an interesting province with many more places to explore. Hopefully, we'll have the chance to come back and admire the beauty of the old city of Ayutthaya again. Here's a summary of the expenses for this trip: Fuel from Korat to Ayutthaya was around 800 baht. Entrance fees were 10 baht per person for Wat Chaiwatthanaram, 10 baht per person for Wat Mahathat, and 50 baht per person for the Million Toy Museum. Breakfast near Wat Yai Chaimongkol was 130 baht, lunch at Baan Mai Rim Nam restaurant was 1,385 baht, and miscellaneous expenses were around 200 baht. The total cost was 2,655 baht.
