This refers to the Hokkaido Shinkansen, a high-speed rail line that connects to the island of Hokkaido.
This is a very long-running Japanese project.
Planning began as early as 1971, but various factors led to delays in the project.
After more than thirty years had passed,
The Hokkaido Shinkansen was opened on March 26, 2016.
Travel and booking tickets I took Vietnam Airlines to land at Narita Airport on May 9th. I bought a JR East -South Hokkaido rail pass from an agent in Thailand (26,000 yen).
And also exchange the JR EAST - south hokkaido rail pass that I bought from Thailand at the JR East travel center
The queue to exchange passes is quite long, but it's unavoidable because everyone needs to take the NARITA EXPRESS train from the airport.
The waiting time is about an hour. If you have any plans, please allow extra time to exchange your pass to enter.
After exchanging the pass, I immediately booked a ticket for the Hokkaido Shinkansen for the evening trip.
I had to go to Tokyo to buy things before because the flight was delayed so much that my luggage didn't arrive with me.
So I stopped by Tokyo to buy some clothes to keep me warm for the time being.
The Narita Express takes you from the airport to Tokyo.
After buying clothes and having lunch, head back to UENO Station.
UENO Station is similar to Samsen Station in our country.
Almost every train on the Northern Line will stop to pick up passengers at this station.
No need to go back to Tokyo.
Ueno Station is an old station, one of the first stations built in Tokyo.
Built since 1883 and was hit by the Great Kanto earthquake in 1923.
It was later renovated into the current building.
From the entrance, you will find the ticket gate and a sign showing the time and schedule of the train.
Once you know the platform number, just follow the signs to find platform number 20.
My train has arrived. It's two trains coupled together.
Komachi 29 coupled with Hayabusa 29
These two trains will run north together until they reach the city of Morioka.
To save money, we can all pull together, cut through the air together, and reduce traffic congestion. The train schedule is pretty tight, something like that.
Upon arriving in Morioka City
The red Komachi train will then split off and turn left to Akita Prefecture.
The silver Hayabusa train shot straight north, heading for Hokkaido Island. Whoosh!
H5 series train of Hokkaido Shinkansen
There will be minor improvements from the previous E5 Tokoku Shinkansen model.
The Hokkaido Shinkansen will be adorned with a purple stripe, the color of lavender, which is widely grown in Hokkaido.
The E5 series of the Tohoku Shinkansen will have a pink stripe.
The side of the train will have a logo of a hawk and a picture of Hokkaido.
Hayabusa is a Japanese word that means falcon.
The ordinary seats are arranged in rows of 5 seats each, in a 3+2 configuration.
The floor of the car is decorated with a snowflake pattern, which is another symbol of Hokkaido.
The window curtain is a new pattern. I can't tell what kind of pattern it is.
And the power outlet is located under the seat.
The train schedule information is similar to the original.
The Green car seating section, which is similar to business class.
The seats are quite wide, in a 2+2 configuration.
and is an electrically adjustable seat
I didn't get to see their GRAN-CLASS or First Class.
Because they have a hostess staff stationed at the gate control, haha
The seating arrangement is 2+1.
Here are the specifications of the Shinkansen H5 according to this table.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H5_Series_Shinkansen
The maximum operating speed is 320 KM/Hr
This speed will be used on the section between Sendai and Morioka stations.
The parking station is according to this table.
Just sitting, lying down, sleeping, eating this and that, and so on.
The high-speed train has significantly reduced travel time.
From Tokyo Station to Sendai.
In the era of steam locomotives, traveling at a speed of 95 km/h took 5 hours.
With the current shinkansen E5, the travel time is only 1.5 hours.
Upon arriving at Morioka Station, the train stopped for a while to separate the red train from the silver train.
I really wanted to go down and watch the parade when it split up, but I didn't make it back to the car in time.
And then the Komachi train turned left to Akita.
The silver Hayabusa also flew north to Hokkaido Island.
The last station on Honshu Island is the station
Okutsugaru-imabetsu and the car will dive into the tunnel
Under the sea, across the Tsugaru Strait to Hokkaido Island.
This undersea tunnel has quite a long history.
In the past, to get to Hokkaido, you had to take a ferry carrying a train and sail across the sea to land on the island of Hokkaido.
Then the stern of the boat opened and a train emerged.
The ferry train looks something like this, but the one in the picture is from Europe.
(Schnäggli, Wikipedia)
In 1954, the TOYA MARU, a train ferry that transported trains across the strait, was involved in an incident.
A typhoon hit the south, causing a ship to sink and killing over a thousand people.
This has been the main driving force behind the Japanese government's decision to build an undersea tunnel, making travel between the two main islands even safer.
Construction began in 1971 and was completed and opened in 1988.
After the tunnel opened in 1988, the ferry system that transported trains across the sea was discontinued, and the Seikan Tunnel was used instead.
And then there was a system of rails, speed testing.
The Shinkansen bullet train will be able to run through the Seikan Tunnel by the end of 2015.
and was launched in March 2016.
This tunnel is one of the longest undersea tunnels in the world.
Total length 53.85 kilometers
It is a period of 23.3 kilometers under the sea.
The deepest point is 240 meters below the water's surface.

It is commendable that the government prioritizes the safety of its citizens.
To ensure the safety of their citizens, they have invested billions in building secure transportation routes.
The history of the construction of the Seikan Tunnel can be seen in this documentary.
The car sped through the undersea tunnel at 140 km/hr for about 20 minutes.
And finally, it emerged on the ground in Hokkaido.
The road was very dark because there are not many big cities in the south of the island. It's mostly farms and such.
The first stop on Hokkaido Island is Kikonai.
The train then headed straight to the final station, SHIN-HAKODATE-HOKUTO. The train arrived at the final station.
Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto
I almost bowed down when I saw the clock at the train station.
That means my brother ran 862.5 km in 4 hours and 28 minutes.
And then I arrived at the final station, right on time, not a minute late.
How accurate and punctual it is! There was enough time to change trains, so I walked around and looked at things, taking in the atmosphere of the station.
The late-night train has very few passengers.
On my way back, I took the morning train, which was packed with people.
Then take the Local train.
Connects the shinkansen station with Hakodate Station, which is the city center.
The Hakodate Liner train runs for about 4-5 stations before arriving at Hakodate Station.
Upon arriving in Hakodate, I was greeted by the same old welcome sign. It still stands there, welcoming travelers as always.
I've seen it for many years, and it's still beautiful. I can't help but take pictures every time.
And lastly, a picture of the newest station in Japan.
Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto
ticket gate
The area outside the station is still quite empty. There are no shops or restaurants nearby. There is a large car rental shop, so you can rent a car as soon as you get off the train.
And that concludes our review for now, as the train has arrived at its destination.
I really admire their efforts. In the past, they had to load trains onto ships and sail them through the strait.
One day, the ship was hit by a storm and sank, killing thousands of people.
The government has finally put its foot down, declaring that it's time for a change.
Billions of dollars are spent on the plan to dig a tunnel under the sea.
They dug for twenty-three years, encountering many obstacles.
And finally, this year, the high-speed train has been extended to Hokkaido Island.
And in a few more years, it will expand to Sapporo.
It's both fast and convenient. Park your car and you're right in the city center. And most importantly,
He was very punctual. He drove over eight hundred kilometers without missing a single minute.
Thank you all for stopping by to read. I hope this thread will be helpful.
When someone goes to sit on the Hokkaido Shinkansen
This will allow you to capture more details of your trip than just sitting and sightseeing.
And finally, I'd like to share with you a photo of the cherry blossoms at the end of the season in Hakodate. Hello everyone!
As of May 10th, there are only a few sakura trees left in bloom. People are searching for them all over the city.
It rained all day.
