My Journey to the Hidden Umbrella Market

On my recent trip, I decided to follow my GPS to the Umbrella Market. After driving for a while, I came across the Wat Ban Laem temple. I realized the market was right next to the temple, so I parked my car there and started walking. But where was the market? I couldn't see any train tracks.

As it turns out, the market wasn't hidden at all. It was just tucked away in a small alleyway. As I walked through the narrow passage, I was surprised to see the train tracks right in front of me. The vendors were selling their goods right next to the tracks, creating a bustling and vibrant atmosphere.

The Mae Klong Railway Market, also known as the "Umbrella Pulldown Market" or the "Death Railway Market," is located in the heart of Samut Songkhram Province. This unique market is famous for its train tracks that run directly through the middle of it. When the train approaches, vendors quickly fold down their umbrellas and awnings, creating a spectacle that resembles a magic trick. Once the train passes, the market instantly returns to its bustling state, with umbrellas and awnings back in place, fresh seafood on display, and customers browsing the stalls.

A wide variety of vegetables are available, including water spinach, banana blossom, and other kitchen garden vegetables.

This region is abundant in fruits, especially the renowned fragrant coconut, which is reasonably priced at 20 baht per fruit.

Dried fish, sun-dried, ready to be fried and eaten.

Young tamarind, 10 baht per 100 grams. Just seeing it makes me want to eat sour curry right away! 5555

Open daily from 4:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The umbrella will be closed 7 times a day.

Waiting for the train for a long time. When will the train arrive? 55555

The train is coming! Wow, it's so cool! The vendors are all packing up their stalls and closing their umbrellas in unison. This is another memorable scene for me as a tourist, and for many others who have visited this market... This is the "Umbrella Closing Market", it's so cool!

I'd better buy some sweets to take home. Everything looks so delicious!

After shopping, you can also relax at the Amphawa Floating Market. Oh, it's so convenient and comfortable. You can visit many places.

I hope all travelers will visit the Umbrella Market, a peak market where you can shop in the middle of the train tracks. Get ready to be surprised when the train arrives! See you again in the next review. Hello .....
