My brother's money is only enough to take us to the border.

This is the journey of a young woman who is deeply passionate about traveling. One could even say that she travels so much that she has no money left (apologies for the informality).

This is not our first trip to Laos. Laos is a country bordering Thailand, so this is our 6th trip to Laos, our 3rd trip to Vang Vieng, our 2nd trip to Vientiane, and our first trip to Luang Prabang. (That's a lot!)

Let's embark on a journey to Laos, a country brimming with natural beauty and friendly people.

This review is light on substance and focuses primarily on sharing photos. (Given the abundance of reviews on Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang, we'll skip the informative part.)

Photographs and Travel Stories from December 1-6, 2016.

On May 30, 2016, I departed from my accommodation and headed to the Nakhonnayok Air bus terminal. I boarded the 9:45 PM bus and arrived at the Udon Thani bus terminal around 6:00 AM. The ticket price was 458 baht.

There are various ways to travel to Vang Vieng, depending on your preferences and convenience.

1. For those who prefer speed, flying is an option. You can fly to Udon Thani or Vientiane, depending on your budget. Once you arrive in Vientiane, you can easily find transportation to Vang Vieng.

2. For those who are not in a hurry, you can choose to take a train from Hua Lamphong to Nong Khai, then take a bus from Nong Khai railway station to the Thai border (or you can walk, we have chosen this option before and walked to the Thai border). Then take a sweet van to the Lao border, and then find a tuk-tuk to the Northern Bus Station. You can also buy a ticket to Vang Vieng for 300 baht (our own experience when we went on the second trip, we arrived just in time for the 10:00 am bus, and we arrived in Vang Vieng around 4:00 pm).

3. Bus Journey to Vang Vieng

Alternatively, you can opt for a bus journey. We chose NCA Air, departing at 9:45 PM and arriving at the bus terminal (BKS) around 6:00 AM. After freshening up and grabbing a bite, we crossed the street to purchase tickets for Vang Vieng. The only available bus departs at 8:30 AM and costs 320 baht.

The journey to Vang Vieng typically takes around four hours. However, our driver's swiftness brought us there by 3:00 PM. Conversely, slower driving or delays at the border could extend the trip to 5:00 PM.

December 1, 2016, departed from Udon Thani Bus Terminal to Vang Vieng.

The bus departed from the Northern Bus Terminal (Mo Chit) around 9 am and headed straight to the Nong Khai Bus Terminal to pick up additional passengers. We then proceeded directly to the Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge. After that, we prepared the documents that were distributed on the bus and filled them out completely to avoid any delays. We then walked to the immigration checkpoint to pass through the Thai-Lao border and headed towards the second checkpoint, the Lao checkpoint, to officially enter Laos. It didn't take long to clear the Lao checkpoint as it wasn't a festive period, so there weren't many people. We filled out the necessary information, submitted it along with our passports, and that was it. We then purchased a border pass for 1,000 Kip and used it to pass through the border gate.

The Lao Kip

You can exchange money at the bank at the Lao border or at shops in Vang Vieng, whichever is more convenient. We exchanged money at the SIM card shop next to the bank at the Lao border. The bank offered 1 baht for 230 kip, while the shops offered 1 baht for 235 kip. (The driver told us to wait and exchange money at the restaurant at the rest stop, saying it would be cheaper. However, we checked and the restaurant offered 1 baht for 230 kip, the same as the bank.) Therefore, it's best to exchange money wherever you find a good rate. (To convert kip to baht, remove the last 3 digits and multiply by 4.)

Or simply remember this: 1,000 Kip = 5 THB, 10,000 Kip = 40 THB.

You can actually use Thai baht to pay in Laos (but only banknotes, they don't accept coins).

After a while, the bus stopped at a rest stop for passengers to use the restroom and have lunch. (At this point, the first two times we visited, it was still a small shop on the side of the road. However, when we came back for the third time, only seven months after the second visit, everything had changed. The shop had expanded to accommodate the increasing number of tourists.)

After that, the car headed straight for Vang Vieng. It didn't take long before we arrived in Vang Vieng around 3:00 PM. The car stopped at the Vang Vieng bus station. If you have plans to go to Luang Prabang or return to Vientiane, you can buy tickets there. They have a service where a car will pick you up from the Vang Vieng bus station and take you to the city center (free of charge). Then, if you haven't booked accommodation yet, you can walk in. There are many places to stay in Vang Vieng. As for us, we booked in advance. While walking around looking for accommodation, the first photo we took in Vang Vieng was of a place that partygoers, dance enthusiasts, and hardcore fans should not miss.

Real Vang Vieng Backpacker Hostel 2, this is our accommodation for 2 nights, priced at 471 baht. It's perfect for those who don't mind sharing a room and sleeping with others. It's great for those who want to meet new friends (especially blue-eyed guys).

This hostel has two branches. The first branch is located near the Sakura Bar, while the second branch is approximately 300 meters away from the first branch on the same road as Vang Vieng Hospital.

Breakfast is included in the room rate and is served from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The breakfast menu includes coffee, milk, and bread.

The interior of the room, photographed from our top bunk bed. The bathroom is shared and clean on every floor. Hairdryers are available. The bedrooms have keycard access and lockers, but you need to bring your own padlock. The rooms are air-conditioned (very cold).

The hostel's lower floor features a shared activity zone with a pool table, computers, Wi-Fi, a movie room, and various activity services, including ETC rentals.

After checking in and leaving our luggage, it was around 5 pm. Unsure of what to do, we took a stroll along the Song River. We sat down for a Coke at a riverside bar and took photos at Champalaou Bungalow as the sun began to set. The view was breathtaking, creating an unforgettable atmosphere. It was truly amazing!

On our way back to the accommodation, we stopped to buy barbecue from a stall in front of the accommodation (name not remembered) for 5,000 Kip per skewer.

One-Day Trip for Tomorrow:

We have chosen to go to Than Nam - Kayak - Tad Yui for a one-day trip tomorrow. We have booked a private tour for three people, which costs 200,000 Kip per person.

We stopped by our accommodation to share photos on Facebook for a while before heading out to eat wonton noodles at a place diagonally opposite Sakura Bar. After that, we returned to our accommodation to shower and get dressed, ready to go "hunting" for guys. Haha! There were three of us on this trip (and our "targets" were different: one of us was into Korean guys, while the other two preferred European guys).

Sakura Bar: Free Drinks and High Spirits!

The Sakura Bar offered free drinks from 8:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Those who enjoy a lively atmosphere would have been thrilled, as the party was in full swing by the time we left around 10:00 PM.

On the way to Tham Nam Cave, the car will stop halfway. We have to walk for a while to reach the cave.

We arrived at the cave very early in the morning. There weren't many people around, and the water was cold. The guide suggested we rest for a while before starting the activities.

After waiting for a while, tourists began to arrive one after another. It was time for us to go through the water cave. Otherwise, it would be too crowded. Let's go!

The cave was pitch black. Even with a flashlight, visibility was poor. We brought a GoPro camera inside, but the photos we managed to capture were limited.

The End of the Journey

The tour guides led us on a short crawl through the cave, allowing us to admire the stalactites and stalagmites. Afterward, we emerged and enjoyed a delicious lunch prepared by the tour company, which included barbecue, fried rice, and bread. This meal was included in the tour price.

On the way, we stopped at Tham Chang Cave to pay respects to the Buddha and make a wish.

After exploring the cave, swimming, and sunbathing for a while, we continued our journey to participate in the second activity of the day.

Activity 2: Kayaking (9 kilometers)

During the journey, the kayak guides took us to a restaurant by the Song River, where we could play Zipline for free. All we had to do was buy a drink at the restaurant.

After playing for a while, we returned to kayaking. We will continue paddling until we reach our destination. Before we part ways, let's take a picture with the kids. They have taken good care of us.

Time to go to the next station... Activity 3, conquer Tad Yui.

The car is parked in front. The entrance fee is included in the trip cost. After that, we will walk uphill for a while (I don't remember how long).

After playing in the waterfall and taking photos, we prepared to return to our accommodation before nightfall to avoid any difficulties. We headed back to freshen up and then continued our adventure at the Sakura Bar. (Unfortunately, it was Lao National Day, and Jungle Bar was closed. We missed it for the third time.)

Wheelie Girls

The Blue Lagoon was very crowded around 10:00 AM. We had originally planned to arrive earlier in the morning, but we ended up oversleeping.

The entrance fee was 10,000 Kip, and I don't remember the motorbike price. We left after less than 10 minutes because it was too crowded (we had already been there twice, so we were indifferent). We went for a ride to find a place to take pictures and have fun.

Woke up at 6 am, rushed out to find ..... 555+ This morning the weather is clear, the cold wind blows gently, making me not want to get out of bed. But then again, I'm on vacation, so I can't just stay in the hostel. So I took a shower, got dressed, and got ready to go out to eat and visit Tat Kuang Si. This is the plan I have for today... After a while, the sound of a message rang out. Who is it? Oh, it's the same guy who sent me a message. So I took the opportunity to invite him to have coffee and hang out with me.

We sipped coffee and enjoyed salads at Joma, a café near our accommodation. After a while, we strolled along the Mekong River, engaging in conversation.

The initial plan was just to go for a walk, but somehow we ended up taking a boat ride, visiting a temple, and exploring a cave.

(For the papaya salad, we volunteered to make it ourselves for our foreign friends. Initially, we thought no one would eat it, but it ended up being completely finished. We woke up at 7:00 AM (did we sleep then?). We planned our day's activities, which included walking around Luang Prabang, visiting Wat Phousi in the evening, and returning to our accommodation at 6:00 PM before driving to Vientiane.

Let's have pho here for breakfast. It's just a short walk from Joma. It's delicious! The shop is open until around noon and then reopens in the evening.

In short, we went to Wat Phu Si, but we didn't reach the viewpoint. An Italian guy told us that he had already been there and didn't want to pay more money, so we decided to go for a walk somewhere else and watch the sunset by the Mekong River instead.

There's not much to say about Vientiane. We took a sleeper bus from Luang Prabang at 8:30 pm and arrived in Vientiane at 10:00 am the next morning. It was a long journey. When we arrived at the bus station, we found a bathroom, took care of our business, brushed our teeth, and then took a bus to the morning market to buy tickets back to Udon Thani.

We purchased return tickets to Udon Thani for the 3 pm departure, which cost 22,000 Kip. If we had purchased tickets for the 4 pm departure or later, we would have paid 24,000 Kip. The ticket seller informed us that the additional cost for the later departure was to cover overtime pay for the driver.

After purchasing our tickets, we went to find something to eat. Once we were finished, we walked to the Victory Monument to take some photos. After a while, we looked for a coffee shop to sit and wait for our appointment.
