**For our trip, we used the services of Boonsiri Ferry (booking information and details can be found at http://www.boonsiriferry.com/).** **The roundtrip cost 750 baht, which included the bus and ferry.**


The First Day of the Journey

Waking up at 4:00 AM, we headed to Khao San Road to catch the 5:00 AM bus. The bus departed on time, and we began our journey towards Trat province. During the trip, we took a nap to rest. However, the bus broke down due to a radiator leak. We waited at a roadside pavilion with other tourists for a van to take us to the pier. After a while, a van arrived that was taking tourists to Koh Kood. It picked up a few tourists, but the rest of us had to wait longer. Finally, after more than an hour, a new bus arrived to take us to a souvenir shop near the pier. There, we checked our tickets and received stickers indicating which island we were going to. Each island had a different colored sticker. The staff then provided us with coffee and bread to snack on while we waited for the van to take us to Laem Ngop Pier.

After a 15-minute drive from the rest stop, we arrived at Laem Ngop Pier, a port serving tourists traveling to Koh Kood, Koh Chang, Koh Wai, and Koh Mak. We waited briefly before a speedboat named "Koh Mak" arrived and loaded our luggage. We boarded the boat and were issued tickets. The boat then departed for our first destination, Koh Kood. The 21 tourists who had been traveling with us disembarked at Koh Kood (most of them were foreigners). The boat then continued to Koh Mak, our final destination. There were about 8 people remaining on the boat, all of whom were Thai. (In my opinion, Koh Mak is not yet well-known among foreign tourists. This was evident from the fact that most of the passengers disembarked at Koh Kood or Koh Chang.) The journey from Laem Ngop Pier to Koh Mak Pier took approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. We arrived at our destination around 2:15 PM and waited for the hotel shuttle to pick us up. ...

The resort's atmosphere is perfect for families and couples seeking a peaceful and quiet getaway. It is located slightly away from the beach but boasts a large infinity pool offering stunning views of the ocean and sunsets. The resort also features a restaurant open from morning until 10 pm and motorbike rentals for exploring the island. One-day trip packages and return boat transfers to Laem Ngop Pier are available. After checking in, we unpacked, grabbed a bite to eat, and explored the resort. In the evening, we changed into our swimsuits and enjoyed a refreshing dip in the pool while watching the sunset. Day one of our trip was complete.



Day 2 of the trip

We woke up early this morning, intending to watch the sunrise at the beach in front of our hotel. However, as soon as we opened the curtains in our room, we decided to go back to sleep. The sun was rising right in front of us, and it was simply too beautiful to miss.

After watching the sunrise, we showered and got dressed to have breakfast, which was complimentary and served from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM. After breakfast, we planned to go snorkeling around the island and then rent a motorbike to explore the island in the afternoon. However, when we inquired about the one-day trip from our accommodation, we found out that the one-day trip that would take us snorkeling at Koh Rang would return to Koh Mak at 4:00 PM. We felt that it would be too late and we wouldn't have time to ride a motorbike around the island, so we decided to skip snorkeling and rent a motorbike instead. The rental fee was 300 baht per day, but if we rented for two days, it would be 500 baht. However, we only rented for one day because we had to return to Laem Ngop Pier at 12:30 PM the next day. We had already purchased our return boat ticket from our accommodation for 450 baht on the Suan Suk Boat.


After renting the motorbike, we started from our accommodation at 11:00 AM and headed to Ao Khaw. From what we had read in reviews, this bay was supposed to have the clearest and most beautiful water. However, since we were not yet familiar with the roads and Koh Mak has many bays, we followed the attached map (taken from Google).

Lost and unfamiliar with the way, we drove aimlessly, the long distances between destinations and the scarcity of houses making navigation difficult. Our first stop was the Cinnamon Art Resort & Spa, a resort featuring the "Bridge to Dreams," the longest wooden bridge on Koh Mak Island, serving as a landmark.

Although we did not stay at this resort, we were able to visit and take pictures. The water in front of the resort was also clear and inviting.


We strolled and took photos at Cinnamon for a while, then drove on aimlessly until we didn't know where we were going. We remembered driving into the forest, and the road was very rough. There were no cars or houses around. We recalled debating whether to continue or turn back. Soon, a motorcycle carrying tourists passed us, leading us to believe there must be a resort or scenic view ahead. And indeed there was, but it seemed like an unfinished resort. We didn't see any names or signs for the accommodation, but we did see a woman taking a shower. We parked our car and went exploring, eventually discovering this hidden gem on Koh Mak. We don't know if anyone else knows about it, but after crossing thorny trees and climbing rocks that resembled volcanic rocks, we stumbled upon this place.

The tranquility of the deserted island enveloped us as we ambled through its serene landscape. Our exploration led us to a breathtaking vista on the opposite side, accessible only after navigating through a thicket of thorny trees and scaling a rocky mountain. The reward was a panoramic view of unparalleled beauty.



The climb to the summit was no easy feat. The rocks were sharp and the heat was intense. But as a monkey in my past life, I couldn't resist the urge to climb. And it was worth it. The view from the top was breathtaking.

Descending, we noticed a small opening in the rock that we could fit through. We squeezed inside and took this picture.


After spending some time at this hidden beach, we continued on our motorbike until we finally found it: Ao Khao at Coco Cape Resort. This place is also quite famous in reviews, with some even saying that if you come to Koh Mak, you must stay here. We tried calling earlier, but it was fully booked. Even though we couldn't stay here, it was still nice to be able to take photos and walk around.

The resort's beauty is undeniable, with its stunning beachfront location and crystal-clear waters. The proximity to the beach and the availability of volleyball courts further enhance the resort's appeal.

After exploring the resort, we couldn't wait to jump in the crystal-clear water and enjoy the beautiful beach.


After playing in the water for a while, we drove out of Koh Mak Coco Cape and headed straight to Ban Koh Mak to watch the sunset. From what I read in the reviews, the sunset there is the most beautiful, and the coconut tree, the island's logo, is located nearby. We stopped for lunch at Ban Koh Mak. After lunch, we went out to explore and find the superstar coconut tree.

After enjoying the sunset from the top of a coconut tree, we headed back to our accommodation on Koh Mak Island to collect our motorbike before darkness fell. On our way, we came across a group of people sitting on a rocky outcrop, playing the guitar and singing songs. The atmosphere was perfect, and we decided to stop and listen to their music until the end of their set. Afterwards, they invited us to join them for a reggae music event at Monkey Resort, starting around 10 pm. As reggae is our favorite genre, we readily agreed and promised to return after freshening up.

We departed from our accommodation around 9 pm and headed towards Monkey Resort. We later learned that the resort organized this activity to raise funds to support underprivileged and orphaned children on the island.


The live music was amazing. We left around midnight and drove back to our accommodation, which was quite far away. We were so tired that we fell asleep as soon as we got back to our room. On the third day of our trip, we woke up around 9 am, showered, had breakfast, and then waited for a car to pick us up and take us to the pier to return to Laem Ngop Pier. We arrived at the pier around noon and took a shared taxi to Trat Bus Terminal to return to Bangkok. We forgot to book our return tickets in advance, forgetting that it was a long weekend. As a result, all the buses were full at all times. We had to take a van, which only had a 7:10 pm departure time. We arrived at the bus terminal at 2 pm, but we had to book our tickets anyway because there were only four seats left. We had no choice but to wait, as we had nowhere else to go.

Keep in mind that during festivals or long holidays, it is advisable to book your accommodation and transportation well in advance to avoid any inconvenience.
