Our two-day, one-night adventure took us on a journey through the city's artistic tapestry. We spent two full days exploring, arriving in the evening and departing the following morning. With 12 captivating locations to discover, we opted for the convenience and joy of bicycle rentals, allowing us to navigate the city's compact layout with ease.

Sudrit Arts Gallery & Cafe, our first stop, is a haven for art enthusiasts, showcasing a diverse collection of contemporary and traditional works. The warm ambiance and delicious coffee invite you to linger and appreciate the artistic expression.

Beyond its artistic offerings, Nan boasts an array of magnificent temples. Each temple is a testament to the city's rich history and cultural heritage, offering a glimpse into the spiritual heart of the community.

The city's culinary scene is equally enticing, with an abundance of delectable dishes to tantalize your taste buds. From savory northern Thai specialties to refreshing local desserts, Nan's culinary offerings are sure to satisfy every palate.

Our Nan adventure was not only enriching but also budget-friendly. Excluding airfare, our total expenses amounted to a mere 1,129 baht per person. This included accommodation, bicycle rentals, meals, and entrance fees.

Our Accommodation: Suddhasart Gallery and Cafe

Let's start with our accommodation, Suddhasart Gallery and Cafe. This charming establishment offers a unique experience, with a gallery showcasing local art on the ground floor and stylish guest rooms on the upper level.

Suddhasart provides both dorm and private room options at affordable prices:

  • Single room: 350 THB/night
  • Double room: 600 THB/night
  • Triple room: 1000 THB/night
  • Dorm bed: 300 THB/night

While breakfast is not included, the cafe offers delicious and affordable options, such as their 49 THB stir-fried basil with rice.

One of the biggest advantages of Suddhasart is its location. Situated in the heart of the old town, it provides easy access to various attractions. However, it's important to note that the establishment will be closed for renovations during April and will reopen in 2018. So, if you're interested in staying here, be sure to book your room before the closure.

2. Baan Nana Library

This is another place in Muang District, Nan Province that has completely captured our hearts. <3

This two-story bookstore and cafe is decorated in a way that makes you feel like you're hanging out at a friend's house.

There are hammocks, sofas, wooden chairs, and a bar - choose your favorite spot to relax.

Their drinks and snacks are also affordable, ranging from 40 to 60 baht.

Whether you want to work, read, or just chill out, this is the perfect place to do it.

Please note that the cafe will be closed from March 1st to 23rd, 2017, but the accommodation area will remain open as usual.

3. Wat Phumin


In addition to the church and cathedral built as a single building,

Another highlight of Wat Phumin is the mural paintings

The most famous painting is the picture of Pu Man Ya Man

Whispering to each other (Many people have heard 'Whispering Love of Nan City')

Anyone who goes to Nan and doesn't see this picture is like not going there.

4. Walking Street



Nan Walking Street

Open every Friday and Saturday from 5:00 PM onwards.

Located on the street next to Wat Phumin.

Highly recommended, lots of delicious food.

Plenty of souvenirs and gifts.

Most importantly, the atmosphere is chill.

Not too crowded, no need to jostle.



5. Nan National Museum


The Nan National Museum

This museum showcases the history, art, and artifacts that reflect the lives of the people of Nan and the northern region in the past. The most important exhibit is the Black Ivory Room, which houses the Black Ivory, a revered object of the city of Nan.

6. Krua Heuan Hom

This restaurant offers a variety of traditional northern Thai dishes.


A renowned local restaurant

that tourists must try!

It is listed as a recommended restaurant

in almost every website in Nan province!


Recommended menus are large sets of rice noodles,

sets of northern Thai chili dip, stir-fried minced pork salad,

fried pork rind, northern Thai sausage, and boiled vegetables.

8. Aunt Nim's Dessert Shop




Another must-visit shop in Nan Province

A long-established Thai-style dessert shop

Opened for a long time, continuously popular

There are various flavors of ice cream, slin,

Singaporean ice kachang, mixed shaved ice, etc.

But the highlight of Auntie Nim is the lotus seed ice cream with sweet egg.

Fragrant lotus seeds + super soft, not greasy, not too sweet

9. Wat Phra That Chang Kham Worawihan

Originally named Wat Luang Klang Wiang, it was built by

Phraya Phukhaeng, the ruler of Nan, in 1949.

Inside are the Elephant-Supported Chedi and

the golden walking Buddha statue, Phra Phuttha Nantaburisi Sakyamuni.

10. N.Nan Cafe



A charming cafe that also serves delicious noodles.

This cafe is a bit further away than the others,

but their noodles are worth the trip.

They also offer other dishes such as homemade pizza,

spaghetti, and various toasts.

11. Wat Hua Khwang



The temple's distinctive features are its Lanna-style viharn and chedi, crafted by skilled artisans of Nan province.

The exact date of its construction remains unknown.

Records indicate renovations undertaken in 1882 by Chao Anantaworaritdet, the ruler of Nan,

and in 1929 during the reign of Chao Mahaprommasurthadha,

the last ruler of Nan.


Located on Mahaprom Road,

the temple's opening and closing hours are not specified.



12. Khao Soi Ton Nam


This restaurant is located on Suriyawong Road, opposite Krua Heuan Hom. It's another long-standing restaurant that's a must-try. Both the Khao Soi and the noodles are delicious. The only downside is that the restaurant is a bit small, so you might have to wait in line during peak hours.
