The Mon Bridge

The **Mon Bridge**, officially named the **Uttathan Bridge**, is a wooden bridge that spans the Songkalia River to the Mon village. It is the **longest wooden bridge in Thailand** and the **second longest in the world**, after the U Bein Bridge in Myanmar. The bridge is a **symbol of Sangkhla Buri district** and a **testament to the community's unity**. Every year, tourists visit to experience the natural beauty and witness the way of life of the Mon community in this area. A must-do is taking a photo with the bridge, which serves as a **cultural link** between the Mon and Thai people in this remote corner of the country.

Visiting the Mon Bridge: A Cultural Immersion

To fully experience the Mon Bridge, an early morning visit is recommended, ideally between 6:00 and 7:00 AM. This timeframe allows you to witness the daily life of the Mon people, including their morning alms offering to the monks. If you wish to participate, food is available for purchase near the Mon village.

Later in the morning, crossing the bridge to the Mon village offers a glimpse into their traditional houses and way of life. Visitors can browse souvenirs or indulge in local delicacies like "Khanom Jeen Nam Ya Huai Kluai," a banana blossom curry noodle dish.

Getting to the Mon Bridge

The Mon Bridge has two sides. One side is about 1.5 kilometers from Sangkhla Buri town, while the other side is about 5 kilometers away if driving to the Mon village.

**Recommendations:**
- Tourists usually visit to enjoy the scenery and experience the cool weather during the winter season, around November-January. In the morning, you can experience the mist that covers the water and mountain peaks.
- Visiting the Mon Bridge is usually done in the morning, evening, or early evening. During the day, the sun is quite hot.
- If you want to participate in the alms offering at the Mon Bridge, you should arrive at the bridge before 6:00 AM. The alms offering will be on the Mon village side. There are shops selling alms offering sets for 99 baht each (you can call to inquire or order at Auntie Yin's shop, Tel. 08-1792-4244, 09-0794-2448).
