Mae Klong Railway Station is home to the UNSEEN THAILAND tourist attraction, the "Umbrella Folding Market". This market is located directly on the railway tracks. The State Railway of Thailand has designated the Wongwian Yai-Mahachai-Ban Laem-Mae Klong route as a railway tourism promotion route.

  • I have never been to Ma Nao before, and it's even better that the train is free (now it's not free, the train fare is 10 baht per person).
  • So I decided to go on a trip to collect experiences to brag to my friends. Let's start here, Wongwian Yai Railway Station. I chose to go early in the morning, the first trip.

  • To reach the destination, the amazing Mae Klong Umbrella Market, follow these steps:
  • Wongwian Yai Railway Station
  • >>Mahachai Railway Station
  • >>Walk to Mahachai Pier
  • >>Take a ferry across the river
  • >>Arrive at Tha Chalom Pier
  • >>Walk to Ban Laem Station
  • >>Take a train to Mae Klong Station
  • >>On the way, we will be on the train at the Umbrella Market, where we will feel like celebrities.

  • Exchange your ID card for a train ticket at Wongwian Yai Railway Station. The first train departs at 5:30 AM.

  • The train arrived at the station platform and departed within 10 minutes. Please do not be complacent and board the train promptly. While others were still asleep, I was awake (and excited) and therefore unable to take a nap.

  • 6:30 AM, 1 hour later, we arrived at Mahachai Railway Station.

  • Exiting Mahachai Railway Station, I decided to ask a vendor for directions to avoid getting lost. I didn't want to miss the one-hour window before the train from Ban Laem to Maeklong departed. Time was of the essence, so I turned right and continued walking straight.

  • Upon reaching the temple, turn right again. Walk straight until you reach the park, then turn left again.

  • Next stop, Mahachai Port! Only 3 baht per person.

  • We soon arrived at Tha Chalom Pier after enjoying the beauty of the morning light. At this point, I believe many of you must have been humming a song in your hearts...
  • Tha Chalommmm and Mahachaiyyyy Why think it's far? It's better to connect our love. Just say the word "I don't love you" and I'll break my heart. Hide yourself like a habit. Escape and hide your face. Far away...

  • Upon exiting the Tha Chalom Port, you will encounter the Ban Laem-Mae Klong Railway Station sign.
  • Make a long right turn. The distance is not far, but please do not slow down.

  • **Here's how to get from Ban Laem Railway Station to Maeklong Railway Station (Umbrella Market):**

  • Present your ID card to exchange for a free train ticket (currently not free, train fare is 10 baht).
  • Let's go to the Umbrella Market! Departure time is 07:30 AM and arrival time is 08:30 AM, according to the schedule I have set.

  • On the left side, there is a salt field. The train is not going very fast, so we can take photos and have fun.

  • Sea salt production is a major occupation for the people of Ban Laem District. In addition to being a major source of salt production, this road has also become a tourist attraction and a popular spot for photographers to capture images of the salt piles lined up reflecting the water and the atmosphere of traditional salt production, which still uses manual labor, which is rarely seen today.

  • Wondering how long it will take to reach the Umbrella Market.

  • How can we ensure that the lemon gets a picture of the front of the train?

  • Contemplating how to capture the scene, the train unexpectedly slowed down around 8:00 AM. We have arrived at the Umbrella Market!

  • The scene was bustling with excitement as foreign tourists flocked to the area. Manaow, feeling overwhelmed by the attention, couldn't stop clicking her camera shutter and waving to the crowd, as if she were Miss Thailand herself.

  • Food, vegetables, and fruits are sold close to the tracks, reaching under the train that Manow is riding. It's very scary. Tourists also stand with their bodies pressed together, making themselves as small as possible.

  • The train is very crowded. Manao is confused about where the train will stop. She is riding the Ban Laem - Mae Klong train, which is famous for the Umbrella Market.

  • The peak time to pass through the crowd is around 8:00 AM. Hundreds of people woke up early to capture the train at the Umbrella Market. Tourists from Asia, Europe, and Thailand were all present. This scene truly demonstrates the pride of Thailand's tourism industry.

  • The train will run through the market 8 times a day, at the following times:

** **

  • The train that Manow took to Mae Klong will depart at 9:00 AM, passing through the Rom Hub market. Manow hurried to find a spot where she could get the best picture, but she had to be very careful because this place is also known as the "Market of Death." Yikes! That sounds scary!

  • Here comes our great star! (Please fold all umbrellas and do not stand on the railway tracks.)

  • Our great star has left (the umbrella is opened immediately, people return to walk on the railway tracks to shop as usual).

  • The train from Maeklong Railway Market (Umbrella Market) to Ban Laem departs at 11:30 AM, giving you two hours to explore the area and enjoy delicious food, desserts, and coffee before finding a good spot to take photos. The train from Ban Laem to Maeklong will then return, allowing you to capture the iconic image and return to your starting point.

  • Stroll through the history of the Maeklong Railway to pass the time.

Mae Klong Railway Station is the terminus of the Ban Laem-Mae Klong route, a distance of 33 kilometers. Passengers traveling to Bangkok must disembark at Ban Laem Railway Station and take a ferry across the Tha Chalong to board the connecting train at Mahachai Railway Station, which terminates at Wongwian Yai Railway Station, a distance of 31 kilometers.

**10:50 AM. Before our celebrity train, Maeklong, arrives, Manao stands there looking confused, feeling bad for the vendors but not knowing what to do except try to make herself as small and thin as possible.**

  • This time, I captured both videos and photos. My hands were shaking with excitement, wanting to show off to my friends as much as possible. It's a way to invite them to experience the wonders of our amazing Thailand.

  • "Umbrella Market": Capturing memories until the very last minute, a lasting impression for sure.

  • Follow the train to Mae Klong Station. Exchange your ID card for a train ticket to return to Ban Laem Station at 11:30 AM (cost 10 baht).

  • The train was packed with Asian tourists, but they got off after a short ride. They were having fun taking pictures.

****

  • Walk back the same way to Ban Laem Railway Station.

  • Wat Laem Suwannaram, also known as Wat Hua Laem by locals, is located next to the train station and the Tha Chin River. It was built around 1726.

  • Take the same way back. Get off the train at Ban Laem station and go to Tha Chalom Pier. Take the boat across the river for 3 baht per person to reach Mahachai Pier.

  • Walk to Mahachai Station, exchange for a train ticket at 13:15, arrive at Wongwian Yai Station at 14:15. (Train fare 10 baht)

  • 120th Anniversary of the State Railway of Thailand (March 26, 2017)

  • The train model fainted. She woke up at 4 am, but it was worth it for everything she gained.

  • 14:30 p.m. The lemon safely arrived back at Wongwian Yai Railway Station.

  • Trip Expenses (2 people)
  • Train fare Wongwian Yai Station - Mahachai Station 10 baht per person, round trip 10x4=40 baht
  • Ferry fare 3 baht per person, round trip 3x4=12 baht
  • Train fare Ban Laem Station - Mae Klong Station 10 baht per person, round trip 10x4=40 baht
  • Total expenses 92 baht
  • Divide by 2 = 46 baht
