Phuket: A Culinary and Cultural Adventure

This review takes you on a comprehensive journey through Phuket, from savoring delicious local cuisine to exploring trendy cafes and chic islands. While I previously reviewed this province (https://goo.gl/y9oPB9), I assure you this experience is unique and even more exciting.

Phuket offers a plethora of activities and culinary delights. If you know of any hidden gems, feel free to share them on my page: https://www.facebook.com/BlissOutThere/

Three Days and Three Nights in Phuket: A Budget Breakdown

This itinerary outlines the expenses for a three-day, three-night trip to Phuket, excluding airfare.

Accommodation:

  • Two nights in a mixed 4-bed dorm at Hao Hostel: 660 THB
  • One night in a superior room at O'nya Hotel: 585 THB
  • Total accommodation cost: 1,245 THB

Transportation:

  • Roundtrip airport bus between Phuket Airport and Phuket Town: 200 THB
  • Additional transportation costs (e.g., taxi to the pier, local buses) are not included.

Activities:

  • One-day trip to Koh Mai Thon: 2,800 THB
  • Sunset cruise on a yacht to Koh Hey and Laem Phromthep: 1,900 THB
  • Food: 860 THB

Total estimated cost: 7,005 THB

Notes:

  • This budget assumes walking as the primary mode of transportation. Additional costs may be incurred for taxis or local buses.
  • The cost of visiting restaurants like หมอมูดง and Cafe Del Mar is not included, as a friend provided transportation.
  • To further reduce expenses, consider choosing only one of the island trips (Koh Mai Thon or Koh Hey).

Additional Information:

  • The trip technically spanned four days, but the first day only involved arrival at the airport and reaching the accommodation in the evening.
  • The journey from the airport to the hostel involved a 100 THB airport bus to Phuket Bus Terminal, followed by a short walk.

Before we head out for dinner, let me give you a brief introduction to 'Hao Hostel'.

This hostel is neither too small nor too big, and its primary use of white gives it a clean and refreshing feel.

Trophies, jerseys, hats, and other cycling-related paraphernalia adorn the space, reflecting the owner's initial intention to create a haven for cyclists.

However, the hostel now caters to a diverse range of travelers due to its convenient location and easy access to attractions.

There's a 7-Eleven nearby, and it's about a 12-minute walk to Thalang Road.

(I apologize for using a daytime photo here.)

Before we get too hungry, let's go grab some dinner!

A local in Phuket told me that there's a delicious rice restaurant near our accommodation called 'Nai Yao Restaurant'.

We just had to try it... The restaurant's recommended dishes are Gai Pad Prik King, Tom Yum Goong, and Pla Neung Dam.

This restaurant has been open for over 70 years, so the other dishes are guaranteed to be delicious too : )

The restaurant is located on Kanit Hongyok Road and is open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Come and try it out!

After finishing dinner at around 9:30 pm, we went back to sleep and woke up to eat again. Haha!

On the second day, we started our day at 'Boonrat Dim Sum Restaurant'.

This restaurant is a long-standing dim sum restaurant in Phuket, with four generations of family members running the business.

Fortunately, the restaurant is located near our accommodation, only a 5-minute walk away.

Boonrat Restaurant opens from 6 am to around 10 or 11 am.

We arrived at 9 am and there were already few options left. Oh no! T_T

But I can guarantee that everything we ordered was delicious.

The restaurant has 3 branches. You can find the addresses in this link:

http://www.boonratdimsum.com/branch_th.htm

If you can't find it, call 076 – 212 – 034.

Don't be surprised that two people only eat this much.

(The total in the picture is divided by 2, which is 52 baht per person.)

We saved our stomachs to eat at the 'Phuket Pork Congee Restaurant' near the intersection by the water.

Although the restaurant's name is 'Pork Congee Restaurant', the highlight of the restaurant is another menu, which is...

Mee Sua! Mee Sua is a seasoned noodle dish served with minced pork, pork bones, and soft-boiled eggs.

Some people also order additional offal and pork blood. It is available in both dry and soup versions.

We ordered the dry version for 45 baht. Oh my god, it's so delicious!

I've been to Phuket 4-5 times, why did I just find out about this *O*

The restaurant is open daily from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Contact number 076 – 211 – 472

Come and try it, you'll love it (I didn't take a picture of the front of the restaurant, sorry)

After a savory meal, let's continue with something sweet.

From the intersection near the water, you can walk straight onto Thalang Road.

For those who have never been here, take some photos of the beautiful buildings.

For those who have been here before, head straight to Rommani Alley.

We have arrived at 'Torry's ice cream boutique'.

The exterior of the shop is a lovely shade of pink.

The interior is decorated primarily in yellow and brown.

This shop sells ice cream and a variety of other cold desserts.

On this hot day, we couldn't resist stopping by.

After much deliberation over what to order, we spotted the macaron ice cream.

Wow! It looked amazing! We opted for the rose-vanilla flavor, which cost 95 baht.

It was a fairly large portion, so we were able to share it between two people.

We spent some time relaxing in the air-conditioned cafe before heading out for a walk along Phang Nga Road.

Initially, we planned to explore more of the city, but it started raining.

We found shelter from the rain and then quickly returned to our accommodation to shower and change.

Later, a friend picked us up and drove us to the pier for our trip to Koh Hey – Laem Phromthep at three in the afternoon.

This is our first time sailing on a yacht.

We chose to go with 'Zea Sailing', which is a yacht charter service.

One boat can hold up to 15 people. For the program we chose, the price is 19,000 baht.

Divided by 10 people, it comes out to 1,900 baht per person. This price includes dinner on the boat, drinks,

and a team to take care of us. Compared to the good life we get, it's worth it, haha.

If anyone is interested, you can see more information at http://www.zeasailingphuket.com

Or call 095 – 281 -1858. They have programs to other islands as well.

As for now, we're setting sail, guys :D

Please take photos of every nook and cranny.

After approximately 30 minutes, we arrived at Koh Hey. At this point, the tour guide gave us the option to either go snorkeling or explore the island and take photos. We opted for the latter and went snorkeling at another location near Laem Phromthep.

Next stop: Laem Phromthep

We arrived at Laem Phromthep before sunset. We took some photos of the surroundings, went for a swim, and then had dinner on the boat.

The food was amazing!

Everything they served was freshly prepared on the boat. The shrimp, squid, fish, and dipping sauces were all incredibly delicious.

Be aware that the boat can be a bit rocky, so if you're prone to seasickness, be sure to take some motion sickness medication beforehand.

It's time to wait for the sunset.

As I said, it rained this morning and there were a lot of clouds in the afternoon.

We were wondering if we would see the sun today.

And finally, it appeared! Yay!

We took a lot of pictures of both people and the view.

This trip was definitely worth it! We paid less than 2,000 baht per person and got to go snorkeling, watch the sunset, eat delicious food, and take cool photos on a yacht. If you have the chance, you should definitely try it!

For now, I'm going to rest because I have to wake up early tomorrow to go to Koh Mai Thon. Wish me luck!

The next morning, the 'Love Andaman' van picked us up at our accommodation at 9 am. We took all our belongings with us because we wanted the van to drop us off at our new accommodation later that evening. (Goodbye Hao Hostel, see you next time!)

Actually, we had already eaten rice porridge near our accommodation before the van arrived. However, the Love Andaman pier also offered snacks and drinks. Why wouldn't we take advantage of that? Haha!

This was our first trip to Koh Mai Thon and our first time with Love Andaman.

We loved the boat! It was the most comfortable boat we've ever been on for a diving tour.

It was spacious and everyone sat facing the bow, which prevented seasickness.

The journey from the pier to Koh Mai Thon took only 15-20 minutes.

It was incredibly fast!

Today's main program was snorkeling at the first spot.

Walking around the island and taking photos before having a buffet lunch.

Go up to the viewpoint of Ko Mai Thon and end with snorkeling at the second spot.

But because we got caught in the rain yesterday and went snorkeling afterwards, we didn't feel very well.

So today we didn't go snorkeling, just walked around the island and took photos.

Ko Mai Thon is a private island with only one resort and only 3 tour operators coming here.

This makes the island clean and peaceful, perfect for a romantic getaway.

Let's take a look around, shall we? : )

If you'd like to rent a kayak, please contact the staff.

Alternatively, if you prefer to relax, there are swings available at various locations.

The most popular spot for taking photos is here.

There is a stylish pavilion surrounded by rocks and crystal-clear water.

It's lunchtime!

The food line here is amazing.

You can get rice and curry with unlimited shrimp and squid.

There are also small cakes, Oh Aew (a local Phuket dessert),

blended fruit juices, and Italian sodas, all at no extra charge.

After a satisfying meal, our guide led us on a hike to the scenic viewpoint. The path was moderately steep, so we had to be careful as we ascended. However, the breathtaking view at the top made the climb worthwhile. While some angles were obstructed by trees, the overall experience was truly memorable.

Almost forgot to mention, Ko Mai Phai is a spot where tourists can see pods of dolphins.

They live in this area. In the morning, when other people went diving, they said they saw dolphins swimming.

It's a pity! I'll have to come back and try again next time.

After getting off the viewpoint, they went diving at the second spot (in front of the beach) for another 30 minutes.

The guide said that there would be a lot of clownfish at this spot. We looked from a distance.

Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves very much. :D

Eating ice cream, haha

We left Koh Mai Thon around 4 pm.

When we arrived at the pier, a van was waiting to pick us up. We headed to the 'O'nya Hotel'.

'O'nya Hotel' is a small hotel located near Index, Big C, and Central Phuket.

The highlight of this hotel is its Chino-style decoration, which we believe many people will fall in love with.

Because it is very warm and perfect.

Another advantage is that on the lower floor of the same building,

There are Italian restaurants, Japanese restaurants,

And the hotel's breakfast room is open next to each other.

This gives us a lot of choices for eating. Ho ho.

After screaming with excitement over the cuteness of the room,

my friends and I went out to find dinner near our accommodation.

We ended up at a made-to-order restaurant opposite Big C.

Then we went back to sleep on the soft beds for a long time. : p

When we woke up, it was already our last day in Phuket. Time flies!

This morning, we went to the hotel's restaurant to recharge before heading out.

There were 3 breakfast sets to choose from: fried egg set, fried egg in a pan set, and fried rice set.

Actually, you don't have to be a hotel guest to eat here. The restaurant is super cute!

As before, my friend and I ate a light breakfast

to save room for the delicious food we would eat later in town.

From our accommodation, we walked to Big C to hail a motorbike.

to town. It cost 60 baht per person, which was more expensive than a songthaew, but we didn't have to wait.

In no time, we arrived at 'Kopitiam by Wilai' on Thalang Road.

Every time I visit Phuket, I walk past this shop but never stop in. This time, I decided to give it a try, and I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is retro, with a beautiful blend of Chinese and Phuket influences.

Kopee Teiam offers a wide variety of drinks, desserts, and savory dishes. If you're strolling down Thalang Road on a hot day, I highly recommend stopping in for a refreshing drink. I opted for the Butterfly Pea Flower Milk Tea, which was a lovely shade of blue-purple. I suspect many women would appreciate this drink.

Let's continue! We won't return to Bangkok without trying this! Haha

From Thalang Road, we walked to "Pae Li Shop".

It's a small cart selling local Phuket desserts.

Located in the Soon Uthit Alley on Yaowarat Road.

The business has been passed down to the 3rd generation, a testament to its popularity.

We ordered the "Oh Aew", a refreshing dessert.

It consists of clear jelly at the bottom and shaved ice on top.

Served with grass jelly, red beans, or other fruits. Priced at 15-20 baht per cup.

Pae Li Shop opens in the afternoon and closes in the evening (exact times unknown).

Here's the contact number: 086-940-2042.

P.S. I didn't take a picture of the shopfront again, please don't be mad at me! :'D

Today, we had a great time! We still have plenty of time to explore.

Since our flight was late at night, we found a place to sit and chat while waiting for our friend from Phuket to pick us up.

Around 2:30 PM, she arrived, and we headed straight to "Mom Moo Dong" restaurant.

Mom Moo Dong was the highlight of our trip! We loved it!

If you want to try authentic Phuket home-style food, this is the place to be.

Recommended dishes include: stir-fried pork with salt, stuffed fish, and stir-fried fiddlehead fern with egg.

The restaurant is decorated like a hut by the drum. Almost every table is located in a cute pavilion with high chairs and tables, as well as floor cushions and low tables.

The prices are very reasonable compared to the taste. We guarantee you'll love it!

The restaurant is located in Pa Lai Alley, Chao Fah Tawan Tok Road, next to Moo Dong Canal.

Open from 10:00 AM to 9:30 PM. You can call 076 – 282 – 302 for reservations.

Our final stop for the day, and for this trip, is Cafe Del Mar.

It's a bar and restaurant located on Kamala Beach. (You'll need your own transportation, as it's a bit far.)

Although it hasn't been open for long, it's already been ranked as a must-visit bar on several websites.

Not only does the stylish bar offer stunning sunset views over the beach, but it also has a swimming pool for hosting parties.

In short, this place is perfect for both those who want to relax and those who want to dance the night away.

You can check the party schedule and events on their website: http://cafedelmarphuket.com/

Or call them at 063 – 081 – 2488.

Three days and three nights are really over? Really? Aw…

See you again next time, Phuket! I'll keep coming back until I've seen it all, haha!
