In the late afternoon of May, on a day with a light drizzle, let's drive and enjoy the scenery. Looking through the window on a clear day, the lush greenery is a feast for the eyes. Let's go to Phu Nang together!^^ This one-day trip takes the route Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai-Phayao-Dok Kham Tai-Chiang Muan. Let's enjoy the scenery along the way.

Shortly after leaving Chiang Mai, we encountered the Wiang Pa Pao Hot Spring in Chiang Rai on the side of the road.

This hot spring is the highest and most beautiful natural hot spring in Thailand. It is located in Ban Pong Pa Tong, Mae Chedi Nai Subdistrict, Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai Province.

Let's boil some eggs to eat. A basket is 20 baht. There are both chicken eggs and quail eggs.

Boil the eggs for 5 minutes and enjoy!

While waiting for the eggs to cook, we can soak our feet in the natural mineral water. There is a free foot bath service here. Soaking my feet feels so comfortable and relaxing.

Continue driving, and you will soon come across a beautiful replica of a Khmer temple.

The weather was a mix of cloudy skies and sunshine, creating a beautiful scenery. Although there were occasional light showers, we did not encounter any heavy rain. The cool breeze made the journey pleasant.

Located on the Lampang-Phayao route, near Phayao city, there is a waterfall by the roadside. Let's stop by. Tharn Thong Waterfall is located in Doi Luang National Park, Lampang Province. It is a small but beautiful limestone waterfall. As it is a limestone waterfall, there is no need to worry about slipping because there is no moss on the waterfall. You can park your car and play in the water right away.

Take a scenic drive and enjoy the breathtaking views of Kwan Phayao, the largest freshwater lake in northern Thailand.

The lush greenery of the early rainy season paints the leaves, grass, and forests in a refreshing and vibrant green.

We have arrived in Phayao City!

After a satisfying meal, it's time to continue our journey to Doi Phu Nang National Park. If you don't have your own transportation, you can take a shared taxi from Phayao city to Bo Bia. The taxi will stop at the City Pillar Shrine. The taxi runs from Monday to Friday, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. On Saturdays and Sundays, you will need to hire a shared taxi or motorbike to get there.

The Doi Phu Nang National Park covers an area of approximately 512 square kilometers, or 320,000 rai, encompassing parts of Dok Kham Tai, Pong, and Chiang Muan districts in Phayao province. The park's highest peak, Doi Phu Nang, stands at 1,202 meters above sea level and serves as a vital source of water for the Mae Yom River.

Travel route.

As you drive deeper into the park, you'll encounter the Unseen in Thailand, a remarkable tree known as the "Samphong" or "Kapong" tree. Its roots span an impressive four meters, resembling two separate trees that have merged into one. The sight is reminiscent of a long-necked dinosaur.

The park features numerous warning signs about peacocks, as the area is renowned for its large peacock population.

The park also has a restaurant that serves single-dish menus. Som Tum is 35 baht, Pad Kra Pao, Fried Rice, and Rad Na are 40 baht. The kitchen closes around 5:00 PM. The restaurant is located near the parking lot.

Those who enjoy close contact with nature can camp here.

The new bathroom is very clean and has ramps and a bathroom for people with disabilities.

The park's waste separation system is truly impressive.

Visiting Phu Nang National Park without encountering its peacocks is like not visiting the park at all. This park boasts the largest population of peacocks in northern Thailand. Park rangers say that during the winter months, especially November and December, peacocks are most active in their courtship displays, showcasing their magnificent tail feathers. On regular days, they are most visible in the mornings and evenings, returning from foraging in the forest and settling near the park. Even during my visit, I was fortunate enough to spot a few peacocks.

Let's go see beautiful waterfalls.

The path down to the waterfall is convenient and comfortable.

The roadside forests are lush and verdant.

I found a waterfall, **Tharn Sawan Waterfall**, which is a single-tier limestone waterfall approximately 15 meters wide, divided into two sides. I visited during the rainy season after two or three days of heavy rain, so the water was a bit cloudy. However, the waterfall was still very beautiful, and if the water were clear, it would be perfect for swimming. (Photo taken on May 27, 2017)

After visiting the park, we traveled back to Chiang Mai. On the way, we saw a beautiful stupa on a hill, so we stopped to pay our respects. It was the Phra That Mon Phra Chao Lan, or Wat Phra Chao Luang, in Mae Chedi Subdistrict, Wiang Pa Pao District, Chiang Rai Province.

To reach the temple, drive approximately 3 kilometers from the main road. The road is suitable for passenger cars. At the entrance to Phra That Mon Phra Chao, there is a large serpent statue that appears to be slithering out of the forest.

We have arrived at the top of the temple, where there is a spacious parking lot.

The ancient Phra That Mon Phra Chao Hai, estimated to be over a thousand years old, lacks historical records of its construction. However, local accounts describe the sighting of a radiant crystal stupa emerging from the mountaintop every full moon and holy day.

The name "Mueang Mon Phra Chao Lai" translates to "the mountain of the many sacred Buddha images." This refers to the numerous Buddha statues enshrined within the cave temple. In the northern and central Thai dialects, "Mueang" signifies "mountain," while "Lai" denotes "abundance." The name aptly reflects the temple's abundance of sacred Buddha images, making it a revered site for devotees.

After paying respects at the sacred stupa and making merit, we took a walk to admire the beautiful scenery surrounding it.

The scenic vista from above offers breathtaking views of the undulating mountain ranges and the serene reservoir.
