Nestled amidst the scenic landscapes of Chiang Mai, Thailand, lies the charming village of Na Lau, a hidden gem often overshadowed by the popularity of Chiang Dao and Baan Rabeang Dao. This tranquil destination offers breathtaking views of Doi Luang Chiang Dao, especially during the rainy and winter seasons when the air is crisp and the mornings are adorned with a gentle mist. Na Lau boasts a plethora of accommodations, primarily owned and operated by local residents. These cozy guesthouses, typically consisting of a handful of rooms, provide a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The prices are generally comparable across different establishments, offering a range of options to suit various budgets. During our recent visit, we had the pleasure of staying at Baan Lee So, a charming guesthouse with stunning views. The serene surroundings and the warm hospitality of the hosts made our stay truly memorable.

Let's begin our journey.

This trip, we took a free train (emphasis on free) from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. It was a comfortable journey for us adventurers. The train was crowded at first, but after passing Phitsanulok and Uttaradit, it started to empty out. We could sit and sleep comfortably. We arrived in Chiang Mai around 5 am.

Take a shower at the station and then take a red car to the arcade. It costs 30 baht per person (you shouldn't pay more than this because it's close by).

Bikky motorbike rental shop is located right at the Khon Kaen Bus Terminal. Look out for the yellow sign. They have a variety of motorbike brands available, with prices starting from 200 baht. For this trip, I used a Yamaha Fino 125, which cost 300 baht per day. No deposit is required, but they will hold onto your ID card. You will get your ID card back when you return the motorbike. You can return the motorbike at any time, even before the agreed time. It doesn't matter how much fuel is left in the tank when you return the motorbike.

After renting a car, it was time to ride. I drove slowly and stopped by Him Nam Coffee Shop, which is located on the side of the road opposite the Chiang Dao checkpoint.

The cafe offers a variety of beverages, including coffee, cocoa, and fruit juices, as well as cakes.

The restaurant offers a variety of dishes, including papaya salad. While I did not try it myself, I saw other customers order it and it looked delicious.

Previously, there were many huts by the river, but the remains suggest that they were washed away by the water. Only one hut remains.

The water is a bit cloudy during the rainy season.

The atmosphere inside the shop

The order consisted of a lemonade, a blended cocoa drink, and a slice of cake. The taste was decent, and the price was reasonable.

Take a break to rest and then continue your journey. ^^

During the rainy season, the water level tends to rise. As you can see in the pictures, the water turns a beautiful shade of blue during this time.

Okay, let's see what's inside. The entrance fee is 20 baht per person.

The air inside felt cool, a stark contrast to the heat outside.

The interior of the cave is filled with rocks of various shapes.

There is a Buddha statue inside.

The cave contained numerous peculiar rocks, but due to the dim lighting, capturing them on camera proved challenging. There were two or three additional caves within, but we opted not to explore them as a guide was required, and there was an associated cost. Consequently, we decided to proceed to Chiang Dao.

Before entering the park, there is a checkpoint where you will be charged an entrance fee of 20 baht per person. Please sign the register and prepare for the exciting journey ahead. The road leading up to the park is quite steep and narrow, so be cautious while driving. It is recommended to honk your horn before approaching a bend to alert oncoming vehicles, as the road can be a bit tight. During our ascent, we encountered only a few oncoming cars, but it's always better to be safe than sorry.

After a considerable drive, we finally arrived at our accommodation, "Baan Lee So Viewpoint." The first thing that caught our eye was the stunning view, even before we reached the actual lodging. The picture was taken from the front of our accommodation.

Clicking the shutter repeatedly, all the photos were taken from the front of the room. Feeling good, huh? Hehe.

Our bed today

Let's take a walk and explore the accommodation. Our house is right here. It has a private bathroom. The blue ones you see are shared bathrooms.

Photographed from a scenic viewpoint, it is breathtakingly beautiful.

Let's rest for a while and then take a shower and change clothes in the evening. Then we can take pictures of the accommodation inside.

Wow, the view here is beautiful. I can't remember the name of the accommodation where I took this photo.

Although I didn't stay here, I asked to take a picture with their sign. You can take pictures at any scenic spot of any accommodation. In fact, I really wanted to stay here, but it was fully booked. It is recommended to book at least 2 months in advance.

The name of the accommodation is unclear, but the tents are very comfortable.

An atmosphere like this is hard to find anywhere else. You have to come and see for yourself. Chiang Dao guarantees you won't be disappointed.
