Thailand's Minister of Commerce, Apiradi Tantraporn, announced at a press conference held at the Renaissance Hotel in Bangkok that "the Thai gem and jewelry industry is a vital sector for the country's trade economy, generating jobs and income for over 1 million artisans and industrial workers. Last year, Thailand was the world's 10th largest producer and exporter of gems and jewelry. In the first six months of 2017, gems and jewelry exports generated approximately 6.3 billion US dollars, making it the country's third-largest export."

"The Thai government recognizes the importance of the gem and jewelry industry and has implemented various measures to propel Thailand towards becoming a global hub for gem and jewelry trade. These measures include the exemption of import duties on gem and jewelry products (Chapter 71), a tax incentive allowing businesses to deduct twice the amount of expenses related to salaries and wages, resulting in lower production costs. Additionally, the government has established standards to improve the quality of products and workforce, ensuring that Thai gems and jewelry are recognized in the global market. Furthermore, marketing initiatives have been implemented both domestically and internationally, along with efforts to enhance the image and promote tourism in key commercial districts."

The Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair, organized by the Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, is a key mechanism to promote the potential and support Thai entrepreneurs, both large and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), who want to expand their business to international markets. It provides a platform for business negotiations and meetings with partners from both Thailand and abroad. Importantly, the event also provides an opportunity for new designers to showcase their exquisite and unique jewelry designs to a global audience. The fair will bring together over 900 leading manufacturers, distributors, and exporters from Thailand and around the world, including the United States, China, Japan, Hong Kong, India, Sri Lanka, ASEAN member countries, Iran, Israel, and many others. They will showcase a wide range of quality gems and jewelry products and services, covering over 2,200 booths.

To mark the 60th anniversary of the event this September, the organizing committee has invited Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya to preside over the opening ceremony and has requested permission to organize an exhibition showcasing her design brilliance in jewelry. This special highlight aims to inspire young Thai designers to develop their design skills and brands for the global market.
