The Bo Kaew Pine Forest, also known as the Bo Kaew Experimental Plantation Station, is located in Hod District, Chiang Mai Province. Situated along the Hod-Mae Sariang Road, it is a popular stopover for travelers seeking a break from the winding roads and a chance to capture stunning photos amidst the rows of towering pine trees. Established by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, the forest serves as a testing ground for various species of mountain pine imported from countries like Australia, South Africa, and Taiwan. Planted between 1966 and 1967, the thousands of pine trees, now over 40 years old, stand in neat rows across a vast clearing. The Bo Kaew Pine Forest also played a role in a project to explore raw materials for paper production and served as a trial site for planting three-leaved pines and eucalyptus trees across an area of 2,072 rai. The consistently cool and humid climate contributes to the lush greenery that thrives throughout the year. While driving along this route, visitors are greeted by a vast expanse of pine trees. However, the most captivating sight is the meticulously arranged rows of pine trees lining both sides of the entrance road on the left-hand side. The picturesque scene attracts numerous tourists who stop to capture the beauty in photographs. The forest's captivating charm has earned it the nickname "Korean Nami Island," eliminating the need for a trip to Korea. A road winds through the forest, leading visitors into a realm of towering pines bathed in the soft glow of the morning and evening sun, creating a romantic ambiance that leaves many in awe. The most ideal time to visit is during the winter season, when the early morning hours offer breathtaking views of a mist-shrouded upper half of the pine clearing, illuminated by the gentle rays of the rising sun.
