Experience the simple and peaceful life at

"Suan Nok Village, Buriram Province"

Living in the bustling city can get tiring, and sometimes you crave a change of pace. Seeking new experiences and venturing beyond the familiar can be refreshing. Recently, I had the opportunity to do just that when I came across an intriguing invitation from...

The Tourism and Sports Office of Buriram invited me to visit Ban Sanwan Nok, a village known for its silk production. I had never heard of it before, but I readily agreed to go.

We embarked on our journey at the crack of dawn, traveling from the bustling metropolis to the serene countryside of Isan. Upon arriving at the quaint village, we were greeted by a peculiar vehicle known as the "space shuttle," which transported us to our destination. As we stepped into the village, we were enveloped in a warm and welcoming embrace.

We were warmly welcomed by the entire village. Our accommodation for the night was a homestay with a local family, chosen by the village. It was an exciting way to experience village life.

The results showed that we would be staying at "Mae Nid's" house, a simple but charming local dwelling where they also raise silkworms.

After exploring the village for a while, we went to enjoy the meal prepared by the villagers. I must say, the food was delicious, like tasting my mother's home cooking. We also enjoyed a cultural performance and a traditional "bai sri" ceremony by the villagers, which was a unique experience. I can assure you, it's unlike anything you'll find elsewhere.

After that, it was time for us to rest. Before coming, I secretly thought that it would be difficult to sleep, but in reality, I slept soundly. However, since the weather was quite hot when we came, it must be amazing if we come in the winter.

The next day, Nid's mother woke her up to offer alms to the monks. They then walked to the temple to perform morning prayers and have breakfast together. Afterwards, they paid respects to the monks for good fortune.

Venturing into the heart of this quaint village, one is greeted by a tapestry of simple living. Almost every household engages in silkworm rearing, tending to vegetable gardens, and raising livestock—pigs, buffaloes, ducks, and chickens. This self-sufficient lifestyle embodies the essence of contentment and harmony with nature.

Following this, we walked to the "ancient market" where locals displayed their handmade goods, including food and silk fabrics.

A Culinary Delight and a Cultural Journey

The village boasts a unique and delicious treat known as "farting dog cookies." Despite the peculiar name, these cookies are a local favorite. Additionally, visitors can witness a fascinating demonstration of silk reeling and explore a museum showcasing traditional tools and implements. After a captivating exploration, it was time to bid farewell to this enchanting village.

The villagers and the village headman came to see us off, bidding us farewell with a few words.

One of the most impressive concepts is the initiative to generate income for the village, providing job opportunities for local residents. This approach aims to prevent villagers from having to migrate far from their homes and families in search of employment.

Another aspect that can be felt from this village is the kindness, compassion, and happiness of its people.

If you have the opportunity and want to experience a simple and peaceful life, try visiting this place.
