Chiang Mai: A Must-Visit During the Cool Season

As the weather turns cooler, it's the perfect time to pack your bags and head north to Chiang Mai.

This charming city offers a relaxing escape, perfect for a short weekend getaway.

Immerse yourself in the local culture, explore stunning natural landscapes, and savor delicious cuisine.

Chiang Mai's allure will leave you wanting to return again and again.

The following is a translation of the Thai phrase "เริ่มต้นการเดินทาง" into English:

Start the journey

Take a long bus ride from the Bus Terminal and wake up in Chiang Mai. The price is affordable.

Rent a car and explore Chiang Mai to your heart's content.

Destination: "Doi Inthanon.."

Before heading up the mountain, we passed by Sankampang Hot Spring. Since we had some time, we stopped to soak eggs (chicken) in the hot spring before heading up to the mist on Doi Inthanon.

The oil will be hot and dangerous. We can only go in for a short distance. There is hot water coming out all the time.

When we arrived, we parked the car and walked in to pay the entrance fee, which was about 40 baht per person.

Walk inside, we're looking for eggs to dip in the onsen, okay?

Chicken eggs are sold in baskets for 20 baht each, with about 5 eggs per basket.

And quail eggs, tiny leaves

There are hot springs, the source of the river, with steam rising. If you put your finger in, it will probably blister.

We then soak our eggs for 5-10 minutes before frying them.

Once the eggs were cooked, we went to find a place to soak our feet and then find something to eat for breakfast.

How about some papaya salad, Gear? Haha

After a satisfying meal at San Kamphaeng, we embarked on our journey to Doi Inthanon. As we ascended the mountain, the landscape gradually became shrouded in mist.

At Doi Inthanon, there are tents and sleeping mats available for rent. However, the tents are not very waterproof, but they are very large and can accommodate up to four people. We only slept two people in the tent.

We chose to set up our tent near the pine forest campsite.

After setting up the tent, we left our belongings in the car and went out to look for a place to eat.

It turned out that... they weren't selling any! 😭😭😭

So we ended up eating at a restaurant instead.

We arrived at the Kiw Mae Pan viewpoint, but it wasn't open yet. I was so upset that I wanted to bang my head against the wall. Why didn't I check beforehand?

Disheartened, we decided to return to our campsite and continue our journey to other destinations.

As we descended, we came across the Siriphum Waterfall.

Next, we went to Mae Klang Luang village to have fresh coffee made by the Hmong people.

A Retro Coffee Grinder: Hand-Cranked Perfection

This vintage coffee grinder utilizes a hand-cranked mechanism to meticulously grind coffee beans, resulting in a fine, powdery consistency.

This cabin offers freshly ground and whole coffee beans for sale at 100 baht per bag.

There is no milk or creamer to add here. The locals say that coffee should be enjoyed in its purest form, just like this.

After Doi Inthanon, we traveled down to Chiang Mai city, checked into our accommodation for another day, and then went for a walk at Tha Pae Gate.

Stop by to pay respects to the Buddha along the way. Experience the familiar northern atmosphere that we all know and love.

The next morning, we embarked on a culinary adventure to savor organic vegetables at the renowned Oh Kajhu Farm.

Visiting Chiang Mai during the off-season allowed us to skip the queues. Upon entering, we ordered a variety of dishes and were thoroughly impressed by the exceptional freshness of the ingredients. Moreover, the prices were incredibly reasonable considering the generous portion sizes and high quality of the food.

They also have a branch in Bangkok, at Siam. You can go and eat there.

- Pineapple Pork Ribs Salad

Adjacent to the restaurant is a small organic farm that is open to visitors.

Our Chiang Mai trip is over. We went on a simple trip, focusing on driving to places we've never been before, with four friends. We stayed in a chill hostel, walked around the night market, and slept in tents. We think Chiang Mai is never boring, no matter how many times we go.
