Explore Thailand's diverse regions in a single day.

Where should I go on vacation?

  • This is a frequently asked question that often goes unanswered, as many people choose to spend their precious vacation days recovering at home or taking short day trips. While international travel is still possible, the uncertain situation has led many to opt for domestic destinations instead.
  • You may have heard of the ancient city of Samut Prakan from various media sources, such as YouTube or magazines. Today, we will take you on a tour of this renowned location, which is considered the most realistic educational park in Thailand. Notably, it replicates cultural attractions from all over the country in one place and also served as a filming location for parts of the drama "Ruk Nakara."

This location is ideal for:

  • Families, students, and scholars: The admission fees are relatively affordable for children and teenagers (under 14 years old). Educational institutions receive special group rates, making it a popular field trip destination. While school trips offer a unique experience, independent exploration by bike provides a sense of freedom and adventure. Parents can take their children on a weekend trip to explore highlights from across Thailand.
  • Working adults: With limited vacation time, working adults can enjoy a solo or couple's getaway at this peaceful location. Early mornings offer the opportunity to cycle through the 800-acre site, capturing stunning photos of the historical landmarks.
  • International visitors: For those hosting international guests and seeking a unique and impressive experience, Ancient City Samut Prakan is an excellent choice.

Admission Fees

  • Thai Tourists: Adults 350 Baht per person, Children 175 Baht per person
  • Foreign Tourists: Adults 700 Baht per person, Children 350 Baht per person
  • Foreigners with Thai citizenship pay the same rate as Thai citizens

Admission after 4:00 PM is half price.

Tickets can be purchased online through the Ancient City website http://www.ancientcitygroup.net/ancientsiam/th/reserve/

What time does it open?

The park opens at 9:00 AM, but the various shops and restaurants within the park typically open around 10:30 AM.

Getting there:

  • Without a car: The easiest way is to take the BTS Skytrain to Samrong Station and then a taxi. Due to current traffic congestion, this is the most efficient option. Once the BTS extension from Samrong is completed, travel will be more convenient.
  • By car: Take the expressway to the Samrong-Samut Prakan exit. At the Samut Prakan intersection, turn left onto Sukhumvit Road (towards Bang Pu). After approximately 33 kilometers, the Ancient City will be on your left.

What to eat in the ancient city

  • Bring your own picnic food
  • Rim Krob Fa Restaurant - Located within the Rim Krob Fa Resort, the average price of food is 80-200 baht. The restaurant is clean and has a hotel style.
  • Rim Nam Market - A popular place for tourists who come in groups and foreigners. The average price is 60-150 baht. The food is a bit slow.

Travel log summary

September 30, 2017

The young wolf booked his ticket online one day in advance and paid via Paypal.

The journey began with a 7:00 AM train ride to BTS Samrong station, followed by a taxi to Muang Boran. The taxi fare was around 100 baht. According to the website, the recommended route was to get off at Bearing station and take bus 511, followed by a ride on songthaew 36. However, upon arrival, it was discovered that the road to Samut Prakan was heavily congested due to flooding. Taking a taxi proved to be a much more comfortable option.

At precisely 9:00 AM, I walked into the ticket office and presented the documents I had printed from the website to the staff. It didn't take long for them to retrieve my information from the system. I was the first person to enter that day, and I enjoyed cycling in the cool morning air, which was much more pleasant than in Bangkok. After cycling for a while, I noticed a new, strange, golden-colored architectural structure that I had never seen before since my last visit during my student days. Curious, I parked my bicycle and went inside to explore. It was an architectural site about the life of Buddha called "Buddhist Abode of the Infinite Universe".

It took 12 hours to explore the various locations and take photos. Then, I found a save point to save my travel progress at a restaurant on the edge of the sky. The name is far away, but I cycled there. The advantage of this place is that I don't have to compete with anyone because it is a restaurant of the resort. In the afternoon, I stopped by the riverside market. There were already many tourists, including Westerners and Chinese.

Tourists who come as families or couples prefer to rent a coach, while those who come in groups take a tram with multilingual guide services.

The afternoon was extremely hot. It is highly recommended that girls who are going to visit should bring hats and sunscreen. In addition, there were a lot of people, so I decided to go back. On the way back, I crossed the skywalk and took the No. 36 songthaew at the front of Samut Prakan Technical College. Then, I took a bus followed by a train.

Benefits of cycling:

  • Flexibility: Go wherever you want, stay as long as you like. The old city has many rest stops, so taking a break to relax and enjoy the fresh air is a great option.
  • Change of scenery: If you sit in front of a computer screen for many hours a day, cycling and breathing fresh air on your day off wouldn't be bad. You might ask, "But there's a park nearby, why not go there?" It's about being stylish and cool.

Regarding the ancient city

  • Personally, I see it as Bang Krachao with outdoor architecture to see.
  • Many highlights, such as the replica of Khao Phra Viharn and the Phra Thinang Sarpetch, are currently under repair.
  • It is advisable to bring water and sunscreen.
