Village Å

After a full day of travel, it was finally time to experience the beauty of this place. The first location to open the excitement was the red house in the village of Å, located at the end of the road in the Lofoten Islands. This is a small fishing village that was once a hub for fishing in the past. The view here is breathtaking! Surrounded by high mountains, crystal-clear sea, and fresh air.

For those seeking relaxation, this village offers endless opportunities for leisurely strolls and photography. The "Stockfish Museum" provides a glimpse into the traditional fishing practices of the region. During the winter months, visitors can witness the mesmerizing spectacle of the Northern Lights dancing across the night sky.

In addition to being the shortest place name in the world, Å has another unique feature that catches our eye: the "red houses" that line the coast, prompting everyone who sees them to grab their cameras and snap photos. But why are the houses red? In the past, painting houses red was the easiest and most economical option, as locals used fish oil mixed with natural pigments derived from iron oxide. This produced a durable red hue that could withstand the cold weather. In addition to protecting houses from moisture and snow, the red color made them stand out during the winter when everything around was covered in white snow. We should be grateful to whoever came up with this idea, because otherwise we wouldn't be able to take pictures with these cool houses today.

Horn Viewpoint

The Horn Viewpoint offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area.

If you're looking for a more relaxing stroll, we recommend driving 10 minutes to "Horn," a viewpoint that will leave you breathless with its stunning beauty. The view of the strangely shaped mountains and the azure sea is sure to have you reaching for your camera.

To reach this location, simply follow the coastal road until you find designated parking areas along the roadside. Please park responsibly and avoid blocking private property. We have witnessed several instances of homeowners expressing displeasure towards vehicles parked in front of their residences.

Day 3

Hamnøya

Hamnøya is a small island located in the municipality of Moskenes in Nordland county, Norway. The island is known for its picturesque fishing village, which is a popular tourist destination. Hamnøya is also home to a number of historical sites, including the ruins of a 16th-century church. We concluded our Lofoten adventure on a high note, filled with unforgettable memories.
