Day 2

Village Å

After a full day of travel, it was finally time to experience the beauty of this place. The first location to open the excitement was the red house in the village of Å, located at the end of the road in the Lofoten Islands. This is a small fishing village that was once a hub for fishing in the past. The view here is breathtaking! Surrounded by high mountains, crystal-clear sea, and fresh air.

For those seeking relaxation, this village offers endless opportunities for leisurely strolls and photography. The "Stockfish Museum" provides a glimpse into the traditional fishing practices of the region. During the winter months, visitors can witness the mesmerizing spectacle of the Northern Lights dancing across the night sky.

In addition to being the shortest place name in the world, Å has another unique feature that catches our eye: the "red houses" that line the coast, prompting everyone who sees them to grab their cameras and snap photos. But why are the houses red? In the past, painting houses red was the easiest and most economical option, as locals used fish oil mixed with natural pigments derived from iron oxide. This produced a durable red hue that could withstand the cold weather. In addition to protecting houses from moisture and snow, the red color made them stand out during the winter when everything around was covered in white snow. We should be grateful to whoever came up with this idea, because otherwise we wouldn't be able to take pictures with these cool houses today.

Horn Viewpoint

The Horn Viewpoint offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding area.

If you're looking for a more relaxing stroll, we recommend driving 10 minutes to "Horn," a viewpoint that will leave you breathless with its stunning beauty. The view of the strangely shaped mountains and the azure sea is sure to have you reaching for your camera.

To reach this location, simply follow the coastal road until you find designated parking areas along the roadside. Please park responsibly and avoid blocking private property. We have witnessed several instances of homeowners expressing displeasure towards vehicles parked in front of their residences.

Day 3

Hamnøya

Hamnøya is a small island located in the municipality of Moskenes in Nordland county, Norway. The island is known for its picturesque fishing village, which is a popular tourist destination. Hamnøya is also home to a number of historical sites, including the ruins of a 16th-century church. The island is connected to the mainland by a bridge, and it is a popular starting point for hiking and fishing trips.

The Lofoten Islands, with their iconic red fishing cabins nestled against a backdrop of towering mountains and sparkling waters, offer a picturesque escape. Despite the short daylight hours, with the sun rising at 10 am and setting at 3 pm, the islands provide ample opportunities for exploration and relaxation. The Hamnøya viewpoint, a popular tourist destination, offers breathtaking panoramas of the traditional fishing village, making it a must-visit for any visitor. Historically, Lofoten was renowned for its production of stockfish, a dried fish delicacy that played a significant role in Norway's economy.

Hamnøya offers stunning views of red fishing huts against the backdrop of mountains and the sea. The island also boasts classic Rorbuer, or renovated fishing huts, that retain their traditional charm. These accommodations provide guests with the opportunity to wake up to breathtaking views of the fjord or the Northern Lights.

The traditional stilt houses are situated directly on the water's edge, some even featuring balconies for relaxing and enjoying a cup of coffee with a scenic view. Inside, they offer all the modern comforts, including plush beds, compact kitchens, and a full range of amenities. For those seeking an authentic experience of traditional fishing life with a touch of Instagram-worthy charm, these stilt houses provide the perfect solution.

Anita's Seafood

In close proximity to the Hamnøya viewpoint, another equally captivating location awaits: Anita's Sjømat. This seafood restaurant, renowned for its fresh catches and iconic bright yellow house, stands prominently by the sea, becoming a popular photography spot for tourists. Anita's Sjømat offers not only delectable seafood but also breathtaking views that encapsulate the essence of Lofoten. The towering mountains encircling the village and the azure sea within easy reach create an ambiance that enhances the dining experience.

Those who haven't tried the "salmon" here haven't truly arrived. The salmon dishes here are renowned for their premium freshness, as they are caught from the Lofoten Sea on a daily basis. The salmon flesh is a vibrant orange, smooth, and melts in your mouth. Choose from smoked salmon, with its well-rounded flavor, or raw salmon, with its sweet, juicy taste. The codfish burger served alongside it only enhances the experience.

Beyond the renowned salmon and fresh seafood, Lofoten offers unique culinary souvenirs, including reindeer and whale meat, reflecting the region's distinct character. Reindeer meat is celebrated for its tenderness and delicate flavor, while whale meat is a rare delicacy. For those seeking an authentic Norwegian culinary experience or a special gift for friends, these two options are highly recommended.

Day 4

Skagsanden Beach: A Tranquil Paradise in the Lofoten Islands

On a new morning in Lofoten, we invite everyone to continue chilling at Skagsanden Beach, one of the most outstanding beaches in Lofoten. This is not an ordinary beach, but a place that blends the beauty of nature, with its bright blue seawater, fine white sand, and surrounding high mountains. The atmosphere is full of relaxation, especially during snowfall. The atmosphere is simply irresistible. The once clean white sand beach is covered with snow, turning it into a soft white carpet, contrasting with the blue seawater and the snow-capped mountains, which are so beautiful that words cannot describe them. This place is also a popular spot for Northern Lights hunters.

Vågan Church: A Historical Landmark

While exploring the area, we stumbled upon Vågan Church, also known as Lofoten Cathedral, the largest wooden church in the region. Built in 1898, this historic church boasts a simple Neo-Gothic architectural style. Beyond its impressive age and beauty, the church offers breathtaking views, nestled along the coastline and surrounded by towering mountains. During snowfall, the scenery transforms into a picturesque winter wonderland, reminiscent of a heartwarming movie scene. Whether you choose to stroll and capture the picturesque surroundings or seek solace within the church's tranquil walls, Vågan Church promises a memorable experience.

Henningsvær Stadium: A Unique Football Pitch Amidst Lofoten's Beauty

Let's wrap up today's locations with an incredibly cool football field - the Henningsvær Stadium. This small stadium is situated in the middle of the fishing village of Henningsvær on a tiny island in the Lofoten Sea. The view is absolutely stunning, as it's surrounded by the sea, snow-capped mountains, and dozens of small islands, creating a perfect natural atmosphere that deserves a full ten out of ten.

Although this stadium isn't particularly large, its uniqueness lies in its location! The locals actually use this field for playing football, giving it a truly authentic local feel. For photography enthusiasts or anyone looking for unique content, I recommend using a drone to capture the perfect shot - you'll get an amazing view of the small, round stadium on the island contrasting beautifully with the sea and fishermen's houses. It looks absolutely magnificent!
