Hello,

1. La Pâtisserie at The Okura Prestige Bangkok Hotel

Mooncakes from La Pâtisserie, The Okura Prestige Bangkok, are presented in a red gift box adorned with a golden ginkgo leaf, the hotel's emblem. Inside, four mooncakes await.

The mooncake is imprinted with a clear ginkgo leaf pattern, the hotel's symbol. The custard filling is encased in a thin pastry crust, while the filling itself is thick, about the width of a pinky finger. The filling is smooth and dense, with a distinct and subtly sweet aroma. The softness of the pastry blends perfectly with the filling, creating a smooth and enjoyable eating experience.

2. Man Ho from JW Marriott Hotel

The mooncake gift set from this shop boasts an exquisitely designed packaging. The mooncakes are housed in a red lantern-shaped leather box with gold trimmings, reflecting the Chinese belief that red lanterns are auspicious symbols that usher in good fortune and prosperity. This belief is evident in the widespread use of red lanterns during Chinese New Year celebrations, weddings, housewarming ceremonies, and business openings. The set also includes a special pouch containing a flame-shaped charm, which symbolizes the belief that fire brings prosperity and success. Upon opening the lantern box, one is presented with four tiers of mooncakes, each tier containing one mooncake, for a total of four mooncakes.

This mooncake is made by Chef Teng Kam Seng. The mooncake is printed with the name of the shop, Man Ho. I tasted the single lotus seed with thin and soft dough that does not crack or crumble. The filling is smooth, dense, but still has a slight crunch. The large egg yolk enhances the smoothness of the filling.

The mooncakes from Mocha & Muffins Bakery are packaged in a luxurious and classic brown leather box. The box opens to reveal four drawers, each holding one mooncake.

The Chinese characters for "four-character Chinese jujube" are printed. The jujube filling is fragrant and distinct, with a thin dough crust. The filling is smooth and dense, with a few nuts for a crunchy texture. The egg yolk adds richness without overpowering the main ingredient, the jujube. Overall, it is a well-made pastry.

The smaller-than-usual size offers the advantage of easy consumption in a single sitting. The eye-catching design features an Erawan elephant pattern. The mini pandan coconut mooncake has a distinct pandan aroma. The thin, smooth, and dense dough has a pronounced pandan flavor. The coconut flesh adds a crunchy texture. 1. Dusit Gourmet from Dusit Thani Bangkok Hotel.

Dusit Gourmet offers two packaging options for mooncakes: a long box for two mooncakes and a square box for four mooncakes. The two-mooncake box features a design of the hotel building, once the tallest in Thailand, and commemorates the 48th anniversary. The mooncakes are a new special filling with date honey and bird's nest mixed with lotus seeds. Both mooncakes are classic large size with a hotel building pattern. The four-mooncake box is a standard square box with smaller mooncakes than the first type, printed with a Chinese flower pattern.

The dumplings boast a thin, delicate wrapper that encases a fragrant filling. The texture is smooth, dense, and slightly chewy, offering a satisfyingly juicy bite. The generous filling features distinct ingredients, each discernible upon tasting.

7. Bai Yun, Romsai & Goodies at Banyan Tree Bangkok Hotel

The four-piece box set from Bai Yun Chinese Restaurant, Rim Talay Restaurant, and Goodies Shop features an adorable design with a light pink semicircle and a handle. When opened, the other half of the circle appears, forming a full moon.

The large mooncake, thick and imprinted with the hotel's logo, was a delight. The green tea single yolk mooncake had a thin crust that exuded a subtle, delicate green tea aroma. The large egg yolk added a savory richness, creating a harmonious blend of sweet and salty flavors. It was a truly delicious experience.

8. Silk Road & The Bakery at Plaza Athenee Bangkok Hotel

The Silk Road Chinese Restaurant and The Bakery's mooncakes are beautifully packaged in a red women's handbag. The mini mooncakes are arranged in three tiers, with three pieces on each tier for a total of nine pieces. The standard box with the Silk Road logo holds four pieces.

Mini mooncakes are molded with floral patterns, while regular-sized ones feature the logo of the Silk Road Chinese restaurant. I sampled the regular-sized mooncake with Singaporean pork floss and peanut filling. The thin pastry crust was notable for its densely packed filling, featuring finely chopped pork floss with a subtle pork flavor and a distinct saltiness. Sesame seeds and various nuts added a satisfying crunch, while the filling was infused with a unique sweet and savory aroma.

This year's mooncakes from 8 different shops showcase a variety of packaging designs, shapes, patterns, and fillings. One thing I noticed while sampling from all 8 shops was the thin pastry skin and the thick, dense filling. When eaten together, they blend seamlessly without being dry or crumbly, making for a pleasant and non-sticky eating experience. I hope this review helps you make an informed decision when choosing your mooncakes.

Thank you very much.
