Today, we will take you on a hike through the leech-infested jungle to see the pink dragon tongue flowers at the fifth level of the Man Daeng Waterfall. These pink dragon tongue flowers only bloom in August of each year, so we came on Mother's Day because there are many holidays.
To get there, you must first arrive at Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park and then proceed to the Park Ranger Unit 7 (Man Daeng).
It is advisable to call in advance to inform the staff, as this will allow them to arrange for additional personnel to guide visitors if there is a large crowd.
It is crucial to contact the authorities and avoid allowing local residents to bring the individual in.
We contacted the park officials in advance, who informed us that the flower bloom this year was not as abundant as usual due to heavy rainfall. This news was disheartening, but we decided to make the most of our hike and enjoy the scenery.
As a result, we returned to the park to rest because camping is not permitted at the unit. For those who have previously camped there, please be aware that camping is no longer available.
Essentials for a waterfall visit include leech socks, hiking boots, and a packed lunch.
The walk takes about 2 hours if you go straight. If you don't want to walk back, you can walk through the village and hire a car to take you to the unit.
It's time to get started. We arrived early to take photos before the limited spots are taken.
We started walking down a small street.
Enter the forest.
The trail is currently easy to walk on, with occasional encounters with friendly slugs.
A short walk will lead you to a stream. From the stream, there is a gentle path leading upwards.
After a short walk, we arrived at an area with a dense population of maple trees. We found some red leaves and used them as props for our photos.
Upon reaching the second kilometer marker, we encountered a fallen tree marking the beginning of the steepest section of the trail.
Upon examination, the body was found to have multiple slugs.
After a short break, the path ahead becomes slippery and steep, making it difficult to progress quickly. The incline is not extreme, ranging from 60 to 80 degrees.
If we reach the banana forest, we will almost be at the end of our journey.
The sentence "เจอต้นแบบนี้ ก็หมดแล้ว" translates to "This prototype is the end." in English.
From this point, it is not far to reach the banana grove again. Beyond that, you will reach the bamboo forest, where you will hear the sound of the waterfall.
The waterfalls here are numbered from top to bottom, starting from level 1 and going down to level 8. However, we will head straight to level 5, the highlight, before anyone else arrives. The walk takes exactly 2 hours.
The fifth tier of the waterfall is thinner than in previous years due to erosion from the water, but the back zone remains dense enough to be enjoyable.
We took photos until we were satisfied, without anyone around. When another group arrived, we moved on to the 8th floor. On this floor, there was a hidden pink snake plant. Hopefully, it will grow into a large clump in the future.
We walked back to the 7th floor, which was quite beautiful.
The sixth floor is a small floor (secretly put maple leaves for decoration).
The fourth floor is very large, but the picture may look a bit ordinary.
The third floor is also large.
Second floor and below are inaccessible due to fallen trees.
We had lunch on the first floor. I personally think this floor is beautiful.
On the way back, we encountered both gentle and steep ascents. Along the way, we were met with refreshing greenery.
On our return journey, we walked faster than before, taking only 1 hour and 30 minutes. Upon arrival, we discovered that several small leeches had secretly followed us. We almost forgot, but during the walk, we had to constantly flick the leeches off.
Thank you for visiting. Farewell with a few snails.
